Building a 12 FPE to try out Pistol Field Target. It's nothing outrageous. Custom air tube with Disco internals, Mrod Trigger, and a custom breech with shroud. Have the tube made now need to start breech.

Got the lathe work done on the breech.

Got a little of the mill work done on the breech. Cut barrel to length and recrowned it.

Looking good man is that nozzle for a shroud? I have a pistol I made awhile back completely from scratch that Is .22 and I have been considering making it a .177 and using it for PFT. Peace
Pete
-
Thanks Pete. Yes it will have a shroud on it.
-
Some more mill work done on the breech today. Rail milled, barrel set screw hole drilled and tapped and shroud retention screw hole drilled and tapped.

Got the mounting holes and bottom contoured to air tube. I sawed a piece of tubing for the shroud need to machine it yet, just put it on to see how it looks.

Breech is finished and I made the front cap for the shroud.

Lookin' good six... Keep up the good work and progress reports man. Peace

Nice, whats the basic specs?
how much $ are you in, and what is the total going to be?
-
Got the last couple pieces that I needed done. Tport, hammer cocking pin, and made a 3/16" plate with drilled and tapped holes so I could cut the Holo-Krome low profile cap screws down to 3/16" since they only come in 1/4". Oh I forgot the barrel support for the muzzle end of the barrel. Now I need to assemble and start test filling it. I have the stock 22XX tport and hammer pin next the the custom ones I made. They are longer because of the custom breech/shroud.

I'll have to total up the cost when I'm done. Wood for the stock is probably gonna double my cost.

Filled it this morning to 2000 psi and let it set about 15 minutes and it had leaked down to about 1700 psi. Going to have to look for a leak. Refilled it and first shot across chrony was a little over 12 FPE. It was 20. Crosman 14.3 @ 799 fps. Guess I'll have to detune it a bit. I'll try a lighter hammer spring first.

That is nice. I can't wait to see it once you finish.

Thank y'all. I made a new tport. The first one had a .136" hole which is the same as a stock disco tport. New one has a .089" hole. I also borrowed a spring from my 2300 pistol to try. Now I have to wait until Saturday to test again.

-
New tport and spring got me down to 450fps @ 6.4fpe. Now I can open tport in small increments until I get the tune I want. Next test will be with a .096" tport.
-
Nice...can't wait to see your results.
-
Tried the .096" tport today and it was still to slow but did bring it up some. I opened it open .102" and gave that a try. Better but still low 500's. Opened it up to .115" and was getting close around 560. I then put the disco spring back in and it jumped to 770, not good. So I put the first tport .136" back in and the 22xx spring. No preload on the spring and it was mid 400's. 4 turns in on the RVA and bang 610. Just what I was looking for with 14.3gr pellets. Made a few shots with those pellets then switched over to JSB RS 13.43 pellets. I adjusted the preload back to 2-1/2 turns in and started shooting. I put a CP red dot on it to test with, shooting at 10yds I could not even see the little bullseyes without any magnification. It got around 30 good shots from a 2000psi fill. Accuracy is a little off but I'm shooting without any grips.

;D
Looking good!

I thought he was going to install a remote trigger, and just put the muzzle against the target. :P ;D ;D ;D

what is the od of the breech before milling?thanks
-
It was 1.400".

I ordered a new spring for it. I ordered a spring for a 1377, it's a 6.5lbs spring. i learned that the disco is 8.5 and the 22xx is 4.5. My Cold blueing came in and I tested it on a leftover piece of tubing. I sanded it in four areas. I used 320, 600. 1000 grit dry. Then I used 1000 and oil for the last area. The 1000 grit dry produced the best finish to me. Taking a picture of it is hard to do put here's one.

Ricky,
Are you talking trigger sear spring or hammer spring?
Joe

Well this is where I stopped working on it today. I'm not totally happy with it yet. My do some more shaping to it later.

Looks good Ricky.
I think I saw someone who took a PCP rifle, just hacked off about 12 inches of rifle barrel/shroud/baffles, put on a new stock (handgun type) and voila....a handgun.
Sorta like a sawed off shotgun.
Or the rifle/handgun Steve McQueen used in Wanted Dead or Alive..
I think it was a AA s510 that was chopped up for HFT.
Worked well, too.
You do good work but.....
-
Well I decided the stock is not what I want. I got the trigger pull length wrong and I need to move the entire grip back 3/4". This will allow me to do the detail I wanted on the rear of the stock under the airtube. Since I'm not going to use this stock as my main one I didn't get crazy with trying to sand it to a high quality finish. It still has some small blemishes but was sanded down with 400 grit. Going with the cheapest but not necessarily worst finish, I'll be using Tru-Oil.
Final sanding pics

Mounted a rifle scope on it until I decide which pistol scope I want. Only shot 10yds today because the wind was nasty.

No complaints here.
-
Thanks but at 10yds it should be 1 holing if I want it to nickel size at 30yds.
-
Do you think it needs a barrel band?
-
May try a barrel band. Here is a 30yd target after I did some barrel work. Had a 5mph crosswind pushing pellets to the left, with a couple oops from me.
