Title: Anyone here with Badgerland Air Gun Association?
Post by: toine on February 06, 2014, 08:21:12 PM
I was wondering if any of our forum brethren are associated with BAGA. I'm trying to find some time to make a trip out there from the Madison area to get around some other enthusiasts, however I'm a wee bit concerned about showing up out of the blue considering I've never done FT before, and my AGs are nothing to write home about.

Tony,
Come to BAGA any Saturday. Don't worry about what airguns or experience you have. Everyone is very friendly and all sorts of airguns are at the range. Expensive and affordable. Field Target is only one Saturday a month. Other dates are for plinking and just fun times.
Hope to see you there soon. this post is April 14th.

Looks like the first FT isn't until "5/24 - Open Shooting / FT Match Opener??"

Don, any practice rounds or pre-competitions going on prior to that?

Tony, post up if you decide to make the trip some Sat before June, I might try to join you there.   June I will be on my way to CO.

That's good to hear!  I'm going to try this coming weekend 5/31 or the following 6/7.   By the website, looks like 5/31 you'll be busy (5/31 - Open Shooting /IFP Banquet/FT Match Opener??)

A good reminder that I need to swing by one of these Sat., since it is maybe 15 min. from the house.

You may want to make it up this weekend. The course is supposed
To be up and running for the first match of the season. I'm planning on making the trip out there myself.

Your coming in from Ohio, that's a bit of a trip!

All you guys! do not be afraid to come to BAGA. We really want you to see our club and enjoy yourself shooting whatever air powered item you may have. We'll try to accommodate you as best we can. We are still a little disorganized form last year's move, but feel free to visit any Saturday....and we'll send some pellets down the field.

I didn't take any pics but I know Alex did.  It was a lot of fun. Vlad won over all shooting a 63/66.  For not shooting in a year or so, very impressive!  Greg came in 2nd with a 61.  I believe Bill K. shot a 57 and I shot a 55.  There were two hunter class shooters.  Tough course, but certainly coming back to a more manageable difficulty level.  You should plan to make it out next time!

As usual, I intend to post pictures and scores onto our BAGA website, but then get sidelined with a long to-do list, from either the home or office fronts. I think it was a GREAT match, as I shot with Vlad and saw that he only missed 3 shots, on only two targets - missed one twice, hehe. I know then the course was cleanable...as long as you had everything 'on'. Also, the hunter score from Phil was a 51, which is seriously respectable....I was a fantastic day for a match and bar-b-que ribs for post match festivities....

Next months match will be changed to Aug. 9 and wee will have a bench rest type match at the end of Aug...i just need to find a few ore PTO days.

August 9th FT match is coming up this Saturday. Weather is going to be great all week long. If you ever wanted to give FT a try, or at least wanted to see what it looks likein person - come this Saturday to Badgerland airgun at CCKC....

Cheers,

Alex

Hello - I'm new to air guns, and I've managed to stumble my way upon this thread.  I'm in the East Troy area, so Bristol is pretty close.  Are there still events going on?

Hi Datasponge,

Checkout the BAGA website at http://www.bagaclub.com/ (http://www.bagaclub.com/)    There's a precision shoot going on this Saturday and the next FT match is 9/20.   I'm hoping to make both (fingers crossed)

Thanks for the link.  I didn't see much (well any) information for total newbies on the site.  Can I just show up with my Gamo silent cat and CPHP's?

Mike, sure - come on out and bring what you got. Sorry there isn't anything enticing for newbies and more sorry if it comes across as being a bit complicated....Look at some of the pictures and the videos, these reflect range and our formal matches...but every month some "newbies" come out and have loads of simple fun shooting paper  targets, spinners and knock-overs...but also a lot of "shooting-of-the-bull" happens as well....don't be intimidated, we're all b-b gun freaks....

Thanks, Alex.  More (possibly dumb) questions... are kids allowed?  I have two young sons (6 and 8).  I don't have any guns sized well enough for them right now, but this sounds like fun and something I would like to introduce them to if possible.

Just curious. Thanks.

I'm sure we could do something, we've all had the "young ones" at the range. Typically on a non-match day, things are pretty slow and the range officer will help with "newbies" of all ages. I started my son and daughter when they were about 5-6, first just teaching them hold and aiming - that's a pretty huge part of the initial steps ...if you force this through and they can't really see what they are shooting, it isn't a lot of fun...not hitting anything that is. Let us know when you plan to visit and maybe we can bring along some of our smaller rifles, albeit even a larger gun on a bench and sandbags can work out pretty well....remember the first few times it has to be about hitting something, later you can work out techniques and holds and different sights...
Cheers

Alex,

Thank you for the tip about 'just hitting something'.  When I was initially sighting in my silent cat, I let the boys come out and take some shots.  At 25 yds. away, there was pretty much no way they were going to hit the target.  And they didn't.  Their excitement immediately vanished.."wanna take some more shots?"  "No thanks, dad."

The other day I broke out the BB gun and brought the target to about 8-10 yds and they put the scope on and were hitting it every shot.  My older boy (8) was actually getting a really nice pattern.  They both enjoyed it so much more. It was fun.

In hindsight, the tip seems obvious - but I guess if we all thought of everything all of the time we wouldn't have much info to share. :)

Thanks again.   And I'm hoping to make it out to the range this Saturday morning - family obligations permitting.

Thanks for the info Alex.
Life this year has been nuts, but I look forward to making the drive out from Madtown sometime in the next couple months!

Tony,

Anytime...we're open every Sat.....all year long. In mid-November we move back indoors...30 yards of warm fun airgun range.

I guess I will try reviving this thread rather that starting a new one; see what happens. I live in Madison and go visit my family in Sheboygan fairly often. It would only be a little out of my way to come visit on a Saturday and fling some lead with you folks. Hopefully you won't mind the clap... clap... clap... of my multi pump 1322. I could certainly use some advice on shooting technique.

Does anyone ever bring a chrony to the range? It would be fun to find out what kind of FPS I am getting with this thing, see if it is living up to it's potential, or if it needs some tuning.

I am busy this weekend, and next weekend is a competition, it looks like, but I will likely be going out that way the weekend after that.

it is what it is.

Guys,

Come on down and visit with us, you won't regret it. There are shooters that come from much further than Madison or Fon du Lac and on a regular basis. We have two matches this month, one this Saturday 15th and another on the 29th. And yes, we have a chrony at the range for use.....we also have an air tank with lots of adapters....not to mention lots of guys that like to share and discuss all kinds of airgun stuff...

- Alex

Pretty much booked for this month with RFBR and F-class
But I'll look your dates up for Sept. & Oct.
A lot of vacation coming up and I'm jumping out of CF and into Air.
Just not the dark side yet ::)
