Newby here gents so please be gentle. :D
I am looking for a small lightweight tank with aparatatus to carry in the field for refilling my FD-PCP no more than one or two times from 1000psi back to 1500-1600 psi. I would like to be able to fill the tank from the high pressure hand pump, chunk it in the knapsack, and use it to top off the gun while hunting.
I spoke directly with Ninja Paintball and they certainly can put everything together to make this work for more than 3 times the price I paid for the rifle. I also know I can go to another gun with a larger, or interchangeable tank, but I really like Mike's little PCP.
So my question is have some of you long time darksiders come across something like this before, or can you point me in the right direction? I am sure there would be several other FD-PCP owners that might have an interest as well.
Thanks to all...Steve

Contemplated a setup based on one of these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/251337859000 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/251337859000)
Would be fairly cheap, but I ultimately passed because of the unknown quality. Still thinking about it though. I might trust it more with a better gauge.

You need 3 items.
Your tank.
An on/off valve with bleed capability for said tank.
A hose to with proper fitting to connect to your FDA-PCP.
You should (and someone more knowledgeable please correct me if I'm wrong) be able to go with a 3000psi Ninja tank regulated down to 1500psi for filling.
The issue is cost. Not counting shipping, you are probably looking at $75 for the tank, and another $75 or more for the on/off valve plus hose.
-
Even a 13 CI / 3000 psi tank would provide 5-6 top-up fills from 1000 to 1500 psi....

In my very humble opinion, the pump is not such a big deal to use for refills. I shoot around 15 good shots, and typically need only about 30 strokes to have the gun back at 1500. It's a matter of a couple of minutes at most. The pump has the added bonus to be probably lighter than a HP tank.
This is probably the main reason why I purchased this gun in the first place. Combined with the HP pump gives me a nice pcp at a very affordable price.

I think Steve is looking for something small he can carry in the field with him. I agree that pumps are great, and I love my FDA pump. Another option too is I think there was mention of a small hand pump at the recent SHOT show that was designed to be used in the field?

Crosman have been working for a while on a very efficient pump for the pcp guns that are 3000 psi or less. It is called turbo aire or something like that.
I have never been very enthusiastic for scuba tanks and all the hoses and yokes needed for standard 3000 psi guns. If the Crosman pump is competitively priced, I will buy it and start buying guns like Marauder or Hatsan BT65 QE.
-
You may get tired of waiting on that pump Mouka. It's been on the drawing board for too long.
-
Thanks for all the thoughts guys. I would not mind pumping in the field at all if such a micro pump existed, but carrying my FD pump in the field is not feasible. I have seen a buddy bottle similar to what I envision from a UK based company, but does not quite match what I am looking for. The 13/3000 tank sounds fine, but the parts to make this work add up in cost quickly, so not sure if this can be done on my tentative $150.00 budget.

$90.00 - 3000/1400 13 ci tank http://www.mac1airgunshop.com/13ci-regulated-800-psi-hpa-tank-p/psi13ci.htm (http://www.mac1airgunshop.com/13ci-regulated-800-psi-hpa-tank-p/psi13ci.htm)
$35.00 - Hose and on/off valve with slide check bleeder http://www.mac1airgunshop.com/coily-remote-with-slide-check-p/psicoilyremsc.htm (http://www.mac1airgunshop.com/coily-remote-with-slide-check-p/psicoilyremsc.htm)
Tim may set the reg to 1500 psi ask him. He also has a 22 ci.
-
Thanks Greg I have reached out to Tim.

Benjamin sells a nice little tank for 90.00 ready to go. I think its a 3000psi tank regulated to 2000psi. I think it refills 5 or 6 times
-
Ok, so this Darksider affliction has now officially cost me some more money. I had a great conversion with Tim at MAC 1 and ordered a 13CI/3000 tank with 1600 psi regulated output with a custom build quick fill adaptor. This setup can be filled with the hand pump, should be very portable, and allow me to top off the FD-PCP while hunting in the field at a price point less than 1 1/2 times the cost of Mike's PCP. I will write a review once I receive and test the tank.
-
The other advantage you have now is that for bench shooting, you can keep it all tethered and have a really nice shot count.
-
wont the 2000 psi regulated benji tank damage the 1500psi rated 60pcp?
is there a similar priced 1500 psi tank setup cuz that would be real nice
i just got mine and its a beast, i dont think i need to mess with my power at all if anything after chrony tests i might have to dial it back a bit to get a couple extra shots

Very interested in reading your thoughts on this setup once you get it, pictures would be nice too!:)

Zero, I have seen a couple of posts where the FD PCP was pushed up to 2K but I am not ready to take that chance, so my setup will be regulated at 1600 psi output.

I received my 13CU/3000 tank with slide fill adaptor from Tim at MAC 1 and my first impressions are: NICE... it is exactly what I was looking for. Light weight, high quality, and works well. 1600 psi regulated;
I have tuned my FD-PCP to shoot a 7 shot string in the mid to low 900 fps range within a 4% spread and will top off the gun after the 7th shot.

The gun is pretty close to 1000 after the 7 shots and the buddy tank will fill it back to 1600 psi about 5 times, which is more than enough for a hunting day in the field.
One thing I have learned after receiving the tank is pumping to 3000 psi, even on a 13 CU tank, is a real workout. Only takes 5 or 10 minutes, but you will appreciate Mike recommending 1500 psi for the FD-PCP. Pumping from 2000psi to 3000psi will put you in shape if you are not already there... :o ;) :D ;D

First of all, congratulations on accomplishing what you set out to do!:)
Second, please post pictures of your setup.
Third, what was the total cost?
Thanks,
Al.

This may sound like a dumb question, but when you open the valve to fill, it only releases enough air to fill the tube to 1600-psi and then stops or do you have to monitor the psi on the gauge that came with the 13ci bottle?
Thanks,
Al.

Here's something you might be interested in to protect your new investment. I recently ordered a few of these for me and some friends of mine. They were stitched and shipped within a few days of ordering them and the price with shipping is a great deal:

p.s. nice shot-string btw!:)

Since the bottle he is using is itself regulated, it will only let out the 1600psi of pressure. So you are correct. The only difference between this setup and something like a QB79 with the bottle on it is that if the pressure in the XS60c is HIGHER than 1600psi, the check valve on the air tube will close, as the air tube PSI would be greater than the regulated PSI of 1600 in this instance.

Ahhhh, I see, makes sense.

The regulator will prevent the pressure in the gun from exceeding 1600 psi, Al....
7 shots of 27 FPE (I presume 14.3 gr pellets) using 600 psi of air is pretty thirsty.... My calculations show 0.65 FPE/CI, which to me shows you are pushing the gun past where it should be to shoot efficiently.... Decent efficiency is more like 1.0 FPE/CI and above, IMO....

Got it, Thanks!:)

Al the cost was $150.00 round numbers. The output is fully regulated at 1600 psi so you simply attach the tank, open the slide, and a couple of seconds later close the slide which vents the fill port and you are done. You can watch the gage on the tank if you like, but it is not necessary. I will take some pictures and post soon.

Bob you are correct I was shooting CP 14.3 pellets. I use the gun primarily for hunting and and will begin experimenting with heavier pellets in the near future. I want the FPE up in the general range where it is now, but will be experimenting more with the fps and will probably drop it just a bit and may get to a 10 shot spread within that 4% range. Because I now have the bottle, I don't have to be as concerned about the efficiency and can concentrate more on what I want the gun to be able to do. I do appreciate your input though and am still very much learning this Darkside thing... :o

If this worked properly you will see a picture of the tank and the slide filler neck. The slide filler simply screws to the top of the regulator on the tank. It has to be tightened with a wrench to work properly so is more than just hand tight. Easy enough to take off if necessary, but not typically in the field. Total length of tank with slide filler is about 13 inches, the tank is about 2 inches in diameter. Total weight seems around two pounds. Comes with a nice magnetic fill cover, and I am using the test plug that came with the FD pump to cover the fill adaptor on the slide filler.

Just a really cool setup, thanks for sharing the pictures and information.
Seems like a good deal too.

After having seen your setup, I too am considering getting a like setup with either a 22ci, 48ci or 62ci, not quite sure yet?
Obviously, if I were to get the 62ci, I would pay the 3.00 to 4.00 to have it filled.
Would be regulated to 2000-psi output, which is why I would want the larger 62ci tank, not to mention it cost only 10.00 more than the 13ci, IF I understand the information on the site correctly.?. (130.00)
Not sure how much a fill-adapter would cost, if it were much like yours?
For me, having such a setup revolves solely around my limited time to shoot, I will fill with hand-pump when the time allows for it still.
Just can't believe the cost of this 62ci tank is only 130.00, and that's with the regulator! I must be reading it wrong?
Thanks again for the inspiration!
Respectfully,
Al.

Al, this link might be interesting: https://www.pyramydair.com/product/benjamin-air-tank-2000-psi-output?a=2152 (https://www.pyramydair.com/product/benjamin-air-tank-2000-psi-output?a=2152) . Add a filler neck like mine or hose with bleed and cut off and you might be in business at 2000 psi. I did not go this route because I wanted a lower fill pressure at 1600 psi.

I took delivery of an FD-PCP today and I already have a 48ci Ninja Paintball tank rated at 3000psi to use for a Steel Storm and Steel Force conversion. It's regulated to 800psi and I figured I can get the regulator adjusted to 1500psi. I do almost exclusively backyard range shooting, plinking and pesting up to about 50 yards and I thought this would be a cheap way to go. What do you guys think?
-
Yep, great setup, that's what I plan for my son's "Bobcat" (FD-PCP Repeater).... You will need to get rid of the coil spring in the regulator and change it for a stack of Belleville washers to get to 1500 psi.... Best to find somebody to do that if you're not familiar with regulators.... Make sure you stay at 1400-1500 psi or you will blow the 1.8K burst disc on the regulator and DO NOT change it for a higher rating, you want that to protect your FD-PCP....

I also want to get the repeater setup. Who has tried this, how did you like it and what was the cost?
