Title: Need Williams 64 Peep sight on Benji 397/392 measurement
Post by: 56S on February 02, 2014, 02:11:04 PM
A big favor to those who have the Williams 64 on their pumper.  I'm looking to get the approx. measurement of the centerline of the peep hole to the top of the breech.  I recall reading somewhere that on some models of 397/392 the sight would not go low enough.  This can be a real problem on my late 90's 397PA since my current homemade peep sight hold is .270" over my breech with a piece of 1/16" tubing soldered to the front blade.  I must have the opposite of barrel droop on mine since to hit at 25yds/8 pumps, my rear sight is lower than my front!

Thanks,  Dan

The Williams peep on my 392PA measures .302 from the top of the breech to the center line of the peep hole.  This is at the lowest setting of the adjustment scale.   Hope this helps.

If I used a Williams 64 I will need increase the height of my front sight a few tenths".  I have been toying with the idea of making a new hooded front so that change can be incorporated if I go that route.  I may just make an improved version of what I have or adapt another type of peep.  I have a very old Redfield peep on my G.R. Douglas .45 Black Powder target rifle that I would love to use on the 397 but it would require too much permanent mods to the AG.  And the sight.

I had to increase the front sight height about 3/32" to have a good range of adjustment with the peep.  I built it up using a little epoxy mixed with brass filings to add some strength to the epoxy.  Then I just sanded it to shape, painted it flat black, and added a dot of florescent orange paint to the top.  Its lasted several years on my gun.  I did have to put a little super glue over the orange paint to make it stronger.
