Title: Here is another problem I have
Post by: Dog-gone on February 01, 2014, 05:55:56 PM
Im scared that Im going to buy the TX and hopefully get use to it enough to be accurate with it and thennnn. Im afraid that after the new wears off for us that its going to sit around and it will not get used but once every few months or so and I wont be able to make that kill shot because I havent been practicing and I will have forgotten how to shoot it right. Or are these rifles different than other springers ?

Compared to most spring guns made currently or vintage I would defiantly categorize the TXs performance in this regard as "not hold fussy at all".

Pillow rested on the porch rail, standing, sitting, over my shoulders, under my legs (just kidding) she shoots about the same regardless of hand position and grip. I still tend to use a loose hold because I find it works well with all low recoil rifles and I am use to shooting that way. However most report to me the same thing. This gun will spoil you in this regard when you go back to shooting less capable spring guns. My kids bronco it not too bad either as it is only about 5.5 ft/lbs and my Hw77 was pretty forgiving but NOT like the TX. She just spits out pellets at 15.5 ft/lbs all day and through the same hole at 25 yards. This is why she is my long range gun now. The groups do not open up much till about 40+ yards so I'm shooting her a lot like most of the PCP guys tend to out to about 75 yards or so.

Good stuff!

ALSO:

After her being the shop for over a month and a half I drilled a typical 1/2 incher at 50 yards the day she came home. Scope was still dead on almost and only needed a couple of clicks to bring back to zero. AND that is after Gene at PA's service dept had her completely apart to repair her.

So you can store yours in a underground bunker all winter long and unpack her in spring, walk outside and get some rabbit lunch with a single head shot at 50 yards without a problem I feel...no worries...

You're over-thinking this, bro.
And why would you ever go 3 months without shooting??

Now I like that right there  8)
I also appreciate you taking the time to explain and completely confirm what   ptpalpha  just said "You're over-thinking this, bro."
But you did explain it good.
ptpalpha  Im not sure why I would go that long but Im sure there will be several times later down the road that will be the case.

AGREED! What the heck is with taking that long of a break here? Oh sure it has been arctic cold here for a few weeks but thats only "weeks" sir. This notion of not shooting longer than a few days gets to me but when it's -5 with wind chill, nope sorry. If I get that desperate I will get my kids Bronco out and setup a 10 yard range in the basement just to get trigger time in. So with today hitting 65 (wow) and less than 5 mph wind and with TX back in the shop (sadness) my son's Bronco is getting a serious workout at 25-55 yards. Yeah I know I know, but even that gun shoots too good for super close work to me. MUCH more entertaining trying to figure out the wind and holdover doping at 50 yards with this $130 500 fps youth rifle vs soup cans than shooting "normal" 10 meter training ranges at paper. Sure my kids gun is quite consistent and accurate at kids training ranges 10-30 yards but indeed can be fun and shootable out to 50. 16-18 inches of holdover anyone? :-)  I love it, gonna start posting videos as soon as I can get some decent editing software of both my long range TX antics and my kids Bronco.

DUDE, just order your TX before we all have a mental breakdown waiting. You know you are gonna, plus this forum is a hangout for a bunch of bloody enablers and now that your here it is already too late. You will spend this and much more money you have (or dont have in my case) on these darn things if you stick around much longer. My advice? Get out now while you still have money and sanity left in you. I lost it quite awhile ago so the airgun 12-step recovery program wont and can't work on me. You however are new enough here that there may still be a chance for hope. Maybe too late by the tone of the last few threads. I did try and warn you at least...

Oh my goodness. Now your cracking me up. I did tell my wife that I have been very impressed with all the help that Ive received. Ive talked about and Im stilling talking about both springer and gas ram and Ive had an extremely great amount of generous help and advice.
Thanks and I do hope to make a decision within a few days...I hope.

But seriously good luck in your decision I do not envy that one at all. What gas ram gun are you considering BTW?

And you better not ask my advice because as you know my tastes by now I'm gonna steer you towards Theoben or maybe (if you dare) a Beeman RX-2 / Hw90 which has the Theoben gas ram driving it.  :P Great rifles I hear but I have not yet had the pleasure. In fact I nearly went with the RX-2 this year instead of saving to go dark side PCP-land but my buddy Rick Eutsler is an enabler also. Hes all "Dave, get your PCP fill station setup first even if you end up with a more modest PCP. You will love them!".

With "friends" like these who needs bank accounts?

Absolutely no problem. Seriously I was not offended. I think you will better understand in my PM. Sometimes I dont like to talk about other rifles here or on any other specific branded forum. You know what I mean. Thanks anyway. You can yell at me in my PM  ;D

After this rifle is held there will never be months between lead slinging sessions!!
I have mine for a year with over 20000 rounds down the tube. Always puts a smile on my face!!

20k Joe? Wow, I thought I had issues having to do quarterly pellet orders with PA but at that rate you had better think about switching to pallet shipments for pellets. I think Rick has a couple of times but of course that lucky guy gets all kinds of goodies tossed his way just for him to test and review. Man I need to get my gal back in here, I'm falling behind.

He did, I busted him for it already in PM...lol  :P

Now if Tennessee was just not so darn big east to west. Dog is like 6 hours from me counting Nashville traffic. Grrrr... But I am seriously considering organizing a fun shoot around here and see who shows. May test the waters to find some buddies to practice hunter class field target shooting because I am not looking forward to driving to the Carolinas to compete alone. We shall see...
