Title: My $40 pawn shop score. Hawke 4-12x50
Post by: Austin E on January 18, 2014, 10:48:22 PM
I was driving home after picking up some pellets at BPS today and drove past a pawn shop. Decided to stop for a look so I turned around and went in. Unfortunately it turned out to be really small and I was ready to leave when a scope box caught my eye on the back counter. I walked over and spoke with the employee and he showed it to me. I quickly searched this site for info, saw good reviews, and offered him $40 (asking price $75). But that's all the cash I had on me. He accepted and said he'd been sitting on it a long time. Now I just have to pick up a one piece mount and wait on my xs-25 to get here and I'll be set.

You make me sick  :P

Seriously, that's a fine score.  I'm assuming it's an etched glass reticle like my 3-9x50.  The glass on mine is amazing for the price.   My dad, who has Leupolds on his best powderburners, was even impressed.

I hate you! ::) Just kidding! :P ;D

I paid $170 new for that scope. It's a great scope. You will enjoy it. Mine sits on my AR2078 and it really works well and looks classy. 8)

Nice find! (Hmm, maybe it's time to check out some pawn shops around here. You never know!) ;D

Yep, etched glass reticle, illuminated red and green, 4-12x50. Just looking on their website retail is $179 so I'd say it was a fair deal. I was going to mount it to my Hornet until my new gun gets here but the I need high mounts for it and I don't have them. I'm pretty excited nonetheless.

I actually just searched hawke on Craigslist just now in that area and it turns out they had it listed. I'm glad one of you guys didn't see it before me.

If it works you're in business - cheap!  If not, Hawke has a lifetime warranty.  It may cost some shipping but it's still a good deal.

You might contact Hawke about your intended use.  Although the Hawke Sport is airgun rated, the IR is not recommended for some (or all?) springers.

It works in as far as I can test it without mounting. Ir works and all the focuses work. I'll contact Hawke Monday. I'm hoping the xs-25 isn't too much gun for it. If so maybe they'll say it's alright on the Hornet or quest I have. Worse comes to worse I can mount it on my .22lr or attempt to trade it here for one that will work. None of my guns are considered magnum springers though, I don't think, so I'm crossing my fingers.

I loath you! Not really, just trying to go with the theme here.   :P

Seriously though, nice score. Nothing better than getting a great deal like that.

Yep, etched glass reticle, illuminated red and green, 4-12x50.

Not too sure on that one   :-[
When talking with the Techs at HAWKE a few months ago, was told Sport HD scopes have WIRE reticles as do EVERY OTHER Hawke EXCEPT there Sidewinder, Eclipse, Nite eye & Panorama models. which have etched glass types.

There fantastic scopes for the money tho ! ... Once you view a etched glass reticle you will see the dramatic difference.

Maybe I just read wrong when I read this on the product description on their page for this scope.
"Virtually unbreakable glass etched Mil Dot reticle."

Difference between etched glass and glass etched?

I'm calling then tomorrow regardless to see what they think about putting it on my xs-25. I'll see if they can look it up and find out if it's etched while I'm at it.

I'm good to go they said with the mount I have, and on the xs-25.

It is a glass etched reticle. The scope is only 2 months old, according to Hawke. I assumed it was as it looks brand new. My mount should be here sometime today! I'm excited to test it out.
