I've got a Crosman NPSS coming. Is it worth replacing the stock seal with an apex?
Will the Gamo seal fit?
Do these need a tuneup or are they pretty good right out of the box?

Mine was fantastic right out of the box. It has since loosened up a little at the pivot point, fairly common form what I've read here. If fact I'm just getting ready to head down to the basement to take it down to install new custom fit washers.

I agree with Dave,,, clean it and just shoot it. You'll quickly find out if you need to change the seal but you may be just fine right from the box :)
I have a .22 Trail XL that was superb right from the box and didn't need anything except one of Bobs triggers :)

to answer the question No the Gamo apex seals will not fit... actualy NO seal with fit without modifications....the talon seal is the right diameter but to use it the dovetail button on the piston would have to be turned down as its alot bigger then the stock dovetail type of buttons....
it wouldnt be very hard to turn one down to make it fit but its a pretty permenent modification :).... best best would be to either just replace it with a new crosman seal(if you feel there is seal problems) or maybe buy the whole piston assymbly(think they are like 7 bucks or so...) and have it modified just in case something where to happen and the talon seals no longer are available you could go back to the stock crosman seal.....
Hrmmm then again it may be possible if there is enough meat in the right places to open the talon seal up to fit the stock NPSS button..... but I have a feeling the groove in the face of the seal might prevent this....

Sounds like I'm getting a gun that doesn't need much right out of the box. That's great!
Looking forward to seeing how it shoots. But... there's always room for improvement I would think. I ordered the Charlie da Tuna trigger. I'm really looking forward to the before and after on that in itself.

777,
My Remington NPSS .177 had a nicked seal from the factory. There were 2 burrs on the chamfer on the end of the compression tube where they machined the dovetail for the scope mount.
I bought a Maccari seal and like MikeM said it doesn't fit. My piston was apparently hardened or case hardened because a machinist file wouldn't even cut it. I decided to modify the seal instead. Worked like a charm! One thing though, the seal had to be sanded down a little because the fit in the compression tube was very tight.
I still have the tooling and would offer to modify your Macarri seal if you decide to go that route.
Regards,
Don
The bottom photo shows the stock seal on the left and the modified Macarri seal next to it.

Is it safe to assume this would also apply to the Crossman Titan GP as far as seals?

no the titan GP is the same as the trail NP pretty sure there is a seal that fits it just fine :)
Don that jig is a GREAT Idea to convert the talon seals to NPSS seals..... hrmmm
