Title: A use for the extra rear sight in AR2078,B and Techforce 79,Home made rear peep
Post by: singleshotcajun on January 11, 2014, 01:14:46 PM
Since I tuned my B3-3 .22 I've been wanting to mount a rear peep sight on it. I know that PA has a Williams sight that should work great but I like to use what I have. I have a few extra 11mm mount rear sights that come with AR2078,AR2078B and Techforce 79 rifles, they are windage and elevation adjustable. This rear sight works great with very minor modification. The screw that holds the elevator/spring needs to be shortened and the body of the rear assembly had to be ground on the bottom to get it low enough. I cut a poly blinder and super glued it to the rear open sight to create a peep. This is working great and is so much more fun than using a scope.

I've got a Mini 14 rear peap on one of my B3's. A friend gave it to me. It's mounted in the center of a weaver rail with seethru scope mounts. I can shoot with the scope or the peep sight. Works good. My
B3-3 sight project is a little different than your's. A month ago I bought some old guns that were in parts and pieces. One is a B3-3. The front sight assembly is broken so I knocked it off. I'm mounting a front sight off an old broken B1 so ancient it doesn't have 11mm scope grooves. I slid a 4" piece of rubber tubing onto the end of the cocking handle and mounted a regular B3 barrel clip to hold the lever. The rear sight was kinda rough. I noticed the holes in front of your breach, same as mine. A Gamo Silent Cat rear sight I ordered for another project screws into that middle hole perfect. I had to drill the front hole out a little to the rear so a small post on the bottom of the sight to keep the sight straight will fit flush. One of the other guns is an old XSB4-2. I'm using a 2078 front sight on it with a clamp on Industry Brand rear sight like yours. Hope it work. I'm worried the 2078 front sight might be a to little high. We'll see.

I hope the 2078 front sight assembly works out for you.If not I'll bet a Williams FP AG with high line of sights will. I've been tempted to put a nice Williams on a B3 but that would defeat the spirit of the B3 now would it not. For me the B3 in all its variants is about frugality and Hey, look what you can do with a few bucks and ingenuity.
If you want different inserts for the 2078 front sight check this out.

I agree, B3's are frugal fun all round. I've got some different inserts for my Izh61. I think pa has an Avanti insert set. Where can you get a Feinwerkbau set of inserts.

I got mine on Ebay.

2mm post inserts are what my eyes see best. Apertures are great for known distances with known size of aiming area but if you ever need to aim off to compensate for wind or distance the aperture front sight messes me up.
Some say the Lyman 20MJT  inserts will fit the 2078 front sight assembly, I have not tried them.

I ordered a 2mm Feinverkbau insert. I'll let you know how it work out. Today I laid out the parts of the guns to show the difference in a Industry Brand B3 and a XSB4-2. They look the same but they're not. Took pics but I gotta get my I.T. guy over here to show me how to get'em from my wife's I-phone to the forum. I've already refinished the stocks and painted the exterior metal with p/u bed liner. They were pitted and the bluing was bad or had camo paint on them. Picked out the springs and seals. Still got to do some grinding and sanding on the internals. I'm thinkin' a Williams instead of the clamp on I.B. Also maybe a weaver rail on one or two. A gun smith here put weaver rails on one of my B3's and my first XSB4-2 as well as one of my B3 AK's. All that's gettin' out of the frugal part of B3'ing though. Got to also order some seethru mounts. Have to decide first on 11mm or weaver. Later.
