Wasps are my number one pest. What I need is an air power shotgun with a range of 6-10 feet. I think I can make ammo with pharmaceutical capsules or drinking straws and cleaning pellets. There are several small seeds that are round, and hard, that should work for shot (turnip for example). Are smooth barrels available? How would you strip the rifling out of a barrel? Will a rifled barrel work?

Interesting thought. I tend to use the wasp spray with a thirty foot range myself. Have you investigated the construction of a shotgun shell?
The front of the shell is crimped to retain the pellets so they don't spill. A shotgun expels the pellets with enough force to blow through this crimp. since the shell itself is retained within the shotgun the pellets and wad are on their own from there. I am simply not sure how that would work with an airgun.
At the ranges you are looking at I don't think rifling is an issue. A regular .22 rimfire with rat shot seems to work fine with rifling.
You've come up with an interesting problem and solution, though.
I have heard (never tried) you can dangle a hot dog over a bowl of water. The wasps eat hot dog until full, drop off, and drown. You can also use an old two liter pop bottle to construct a wasp trap. You just replace or rework the lid.

I had a Crosman 2100 when I was a kid. I used to use my dad's #8 shot (or #7 maybe). They're lead, so it shouldn't damage the barrel. Might make a mess though if you're shooting quite a bit.
The Bug-a-Salt is a neat invention that I've been meaning to take a closer look at. Might work for you.

My solution is different than most. I live in the country. This year I bought a Smoothbore North West Trade Gun. It is a flint lock muzzleloader in 20ga/62cal. I plan to use a light load of black powder (10-20gr) and load it with dried peas. The will pack plenty of punch close range but will not carry far enough to cause damage to neighbors. Im sure people will think im crazy

Gamo sells the Air shotgun. have one works out to 15 yard and will shoot .22 cal as well.

Speaking from experience, a few thousand steel BB's will do the trick! I am fairly well versed in shotguns, and rifling will often give you a "doughnut" pattern. However, at your ranges, I think that effect would be non-apparent. I would think a multi pump breech loader with coarse grain kosher salt rolled in a ply of tissue paper and a felt cleaning pellet wad would suit you.
I did know a fellow who would pin them to his wall all day long with a blowgun and 4" needle darts.
