Hey all,
I am just getting into airgunning and I have been looking at airguns almost non-stop for the last week or so. LOTS of very nice rifles with most being out of my price range. While browsing the various springers I decided to pick out what would be my pick of spring air rifles if money were no object. The one I picked is the HW98/R11. I think it is one of the most beautiful air rifles out there. Since the FWB 300 Running Target is no longer available, I'll gladly take the HW98. I wish there was a shop close to me that I could go and juct check it out. I have been going through the forums here looking for good pics of that model to save on my computer.
I found a thread talking about taking an HW95 and converting it to the HW98. Apparently they are basically the same parts but with a different stock. It would be an HW98 on the stock of the HW95. I bet that would be a nice setup too. I wonder if anyone has done it and if they have, I'd like to see some pics of it and see how it turned out.
For my tastes the rifles that have no sights and shrouded barrels are the much prettier rifles. I also like the muzzle weights and suppressor look too.
Anyone have pics or a story about this they can tell?
Thanks

My wife bought me a 98 for Christmas, great gun. When money is right it goes to Motorhead for a tune. A little to much spring noise for my liking. I think by the time you buy a 95, and change it over, it will cost more then the 98. I never handled a 95.

That's what I want right there. What a beautiful rifle. I'd like to hear how it shoots for you when you get around to doing a report on it.
Thanks for the pic.

Hey , nice new toy Tom. Congrats!

Stock and Barrel sleeve/weight.
Other than that really the same mechanics overall.
Which begs the question asked ? Why convert when you could get the version you want ?
Is the cost to convert worthy of perceived gains to be made ?
Just really an open ended conversation here ;)

My 98 is 177 and has received the Motörhead Magic with a PG2 kit.
Cocks smooth as silk, very consistent, not hold or pellet fussy....just a pleasure to shoot!!
This group was shot at 30 yards front bag rested 5 shots with JSB 7.87. Doesn't get much better than that for me!!
Also, some numbers.
98 10 shot string JSB 8.4
Lo 906.6
Hi 910.5
Avg 908.4
ES 3.88
SD 1.41
Think I'll keep her for a while!!!

Hey , nice new toy Tom. Congrats!
Thanks Steve. After shooting Joe's that Scott went over, there is a big difference. The stock gun is real nice, but the tuned gun is a lot smoother, and quiet.

Don't fret Joe, with some practice you may be able to tighten that group up a bit.

Thanks Steve!!! Hey maybe with some practice I'll be able to light a match at 25 yards!!!! Nah, never happen.

Since you don't already own a 95 or 98 and trying to make a 98 I would just save a little longer and buy a 98. Trying to find a 98 stock on the used market is slim. Trying to find the barrel sleeve will be nearly impossible. I own a 98 (R11) and it is a wonderful rifle and worth your pursuit.
