Title: Feedback from owners - Effective range, full-power S200/CZ200
Post by: drewciferpike on January 03, 2014, 01:15:12 PM
It's funny how things snowball and breed other issues: I was discussing my search for a PCP with a family friend, and he started asking some questions (his knowledge of AGs is: "That's like a Red Ryder, right?").

The S200/CZ200 came up, and he thought it might be a good rifle to start his low-teen children with airguns (and he wants to use it when they're not... we all know he'll never let those kids use that rifle for months... haha).

I've seen a lot of posts and information regarding the 200s for use as sub-12fpe FT and 10m guns, but I don't really know that much about their full-power performance. I know they are redonkulously accurate, but to what range? Assuming this guy starts with the hunter version, and follows the directions I found in this gate to hit the basic ceiling, what are we looking at for a .22? I've seen numbers for .177s (14-16fpe), but I don't know how that would translate to the larger caliber.

Considering caliber, to what ranges are you comfortable stretching things out? 50 yards, max? 75? Would it be better to guide him to heavy .177s, or lighter .22s?

Seeing as I don't own the rifle, and have only heard great things, I'd like to offer him some real-world feedback before he makes any decisions.

This will probably be a minority view.

Love the guns, but not so crazy about them when cranked up.

Mention it because “how far” seems to be a major consideration, and that usually indicates  an urge for power. Really aren’t going to win a power race, with a CZ/AA s200 or 200T and cranking them up in power loses some of their best qualities.  If speed/power is a major concern, generally point potential buyers to other PCP’s .

So I keep my two at a medium setting, about 12 foot pounds for the .177 and about 16 for the .22.

Guess I could shoot farther well enough, but popping paintballs at 50 yards, or the occasional small sized pest, seems about right to me.

There sweet at 12# with decent shot count.  Excel in .177 cal able to toss the small pills low 800's .
IMO NOT a heavy pellet shooting PCP but one that ideally shoots upper 7 to 9 grains quite well.

They are a SMALL frame rifle and IMO not a "Man size gun" but a youth/ladies size in the factory supplied stock.

Bumped mine up to 15fpe in .177.... decent shot count.  Suffered when I cranked it up more.  I prefer 12-15fpe in .177 anyway.   Accurate enough to do what I want out to 50 yards.  Likely more, but I've not stretched it out that far.
