Title: How do you season your barrels?
Post by: airgunhunter118 on January 03, 2014, 12:01:40 PM
I have been trying to achieve accuracy and i finally found the pellet but just the other I gave the barrel a good cleaning job with a nylon brush and jb compound. So since the barrel is very clean now, how many shots do you guys think would season my barrel so I can see good accuracy?

re seasoning a barrel is kinda personal.
usually 150 pellets after a wipe out....but you scrubbed yours, could take 5-600

good luck

Thats what I was afraid of. Good thing I have a bunch of cheap lead pellets that I can shoot through it so I dont have to waste my expensive pellets

It depends on the barrel. Perhaps the softer steel barrels need seasoning? HW barrels are pretty soft compared to the hard steel of the LW barrels.
All I know is that when my groups open up, I do a cleaing and presto my groups shrink again immediately with the LW barrels.

Funny thing, the ancient Romans used Lead as a seasoning and sweetener.  Guess that explains Nero and Caligula...
