I never owned a pellet or bb gun until I was 72 but lots of powder burners. I wanted to have more shooting time without going to the gun club (40 minutes away). A small Venturi Bronco was the start and now several Weihrauch's later I enjoy this sport very much. How did you get started?
-
Same as you more or less. I enjoy the sport of shooting. Getting to the range, reloading, $$, etc. seemed to keep me from doing what I love. Enter the nice, high end, air rifle and problem solved. Now I can shoot nice rifles at home. Ammo is cheap and no reloading. People think we are crazy for spending money on "BB" guns but these are the guns I shoot most. Why not spend money on the gun you shoot the most? All my other guns just sit in the safe. Spending money on those turns out to have been crazy.
-
Me too...i can shoot in the convenience of my back yard which makes it therapeutic for me ;D
-
I started when I was about 7, with a Daisy Model 25.
Growing up, I bought all kinds of airguns.
First, from Air Rifle Headquarters, then from Beemans's Precision
Airguns.
I never got into firearms too much.
I have two firearms that I've never even shot either of
them one time.

I was suddenly over ridden with feral pests that were ruining mine, and my neighbors homes. I thought back to my youth for a legal, and neighborhood friendly means of controlling it, and the rest has become a rather bit obsessive...;)
-
I wish I had a little pest problem to take care off. Instead I kill paper targets really good!

Thats too bad, but congrats on finding a new hole puncher ;D
-
I first started when I was around 17 with a crossman multi-pump. which I soon found out isn't accurate or powerful, then turned around after finding a small shop in PA. which specializes in AG's and brought a rws48 and then springers grew, life got busy, had a child, put things on hold. my daughter likes shooting but doen't care for springers so I brought a mrod late spring /early summer. then brought 3 more pcp's afterwards. I enjoy the peace and quiet of shooting and committed concentration to perform consistent shots. basically it takes my mind off of the daily grind and it's something my daughter and I can do inexpensively in our home and on our property.

The pest problem cost me more in repairs than what I have, and spent currently, on this "hobby".
Trust me, the paper is a better option.

Daisey Red Rider from that dude they call Santa age 5 around 1965
Raised to hunt .22 and .20ga soon followed by age 7
Worked hard when I was young and paid a good bit of my way in the world
Sheridan's were sold at Gibsons
Near 5 decades later and many, many $thousands$ later I still "SHOOT"
Instead of blowing expensive PB ammo,I buy expensive AG's and shoot when I feel like it
Shakes out pretty even considering time to the range, fee's etc
I hunt alot, plenty of rabbits, coons, grinners and a few tree rats keep the freezer stocked with decent meat
I dont relive my childhood,I still live it 8)

I started about 1.5 years ago because squirrels were eating my blueberries. I bought a Daisy 880 and a bunch of BB's. Then I went to pellets, then got a scope, then got a better scope, then got a break barrel, then another, and another, and then a Discovery PCP. The Disco has been a blast, and has increased my kill percentage dramatically (I'm not so great with the break barrels).
Needless to say, squirrels no longer eat my blueberries, and the ones that at one time occupied my attic are no longer there as well.
-
I had a BB gun when I was a kid. Now I'm 60. I shot a lot of smokeless powder firearms and hand loaded ammunition for my guns and the competition I used to take part in. Then about 7-8 years ago, I decided it would be cool to shoot in my back yard and got an air gun. Guess I was lucky in that my neighbor was pretty deaf and my shooting didn't bother him. I never did it when he had company. Flash forward to a couple years ago. We moved to the Big Island of Hawaii to the Puna District. We now have an acre, and I can shoot almost whenever I want. It keeps me in good shooting condition, and I enjoy it.

I grew up in a semi rural part of Santa Cruz County, CA with crows, blue jays, squirrels, rats, feral cats, you name it, all causing some sort of problem or commotion. When my dad was alive, we never seemed to have a problem with pests on the property. When he passed, suddenly my mom was overrun with all sorts of pests and varmits.
Soon after, I ran over to Eddy's Gun Shop in Mountain View and bought myself a break barrel RWS in .177 with a cheapo scope and went to work. I soon realized that I needed more hitting power, better optics, and a repeater would sure be nice.
On the counter at Eddy's was an early edition (maybe edition 1) of a new magazine called IIRC, American Airgunner. Rodney Boyce was the editor/publisher at the time, and he had an ad in his magagazine for Daystate. I think that he was the US distributor at the time (1994/5).
I called the Great Mr Boyce, as his phone number was listed in his ad and asked him which Daystate should I get. He listened patiently to my needs and wants, and passed me off to Allen Zasadny. Mr Boyce said that it sounded like I needed a good field gun. He said that PCP's were the WAY TO GO, and to forget about spring guns. He told me that my best bet was to buy one of Allen's tuned and prepped Career 707's and gave me AZ's phone number.
Best advise I ever got.
I still have the AZ Career 707 and recently bought one of Allen's Rapids.
I have shot boxes and boxes of first, Crosman Premiers and now cans and cans of JSB's.
Fun Fun Fun! I have a love for air gunning! :-)

Been hunting Hogs with Bow and arrow for a long time, problem here is that because of the vegetation even a dead hog at times is unrecoverable.
with airguns I can drop them on the spot :) :)
of course I could use my Henry .357 but I grew up hunting high power centerfires in Australia and never felt really like a Hunter untill I started Hunting with Bows.
Airguns pose similar challenges, but drop them hogs on the spot, ...easy to find :) :)
-
I've never really been apart from air rifles. I grew up with them along with many powder burning guns and archery equipment. Mostly for hunting, but plenty of target shooting too.
Richard
-
Easy answer - pellet rifles are quieter than my twelve gauge and pellets don't travel as far as shots from a rimfire.
-
I actually got into air gunning because my wife is a dedicated bird lover and squirrels were eating the bird food in her feeders. It has come to work out very well for me over the years. I live at the end of a cul-de-sac in a heavily wooded neighborhood in NC and there used to be literally hundreds of squirrels from my house to the end of the block. I have been so successful that neighbors are thanking me because squirrels are now a very rare thing in this neighborhood. Last season, I actually ran out of squirrels to shoot for a few months. Also, the wife can't really complain about my hobby now because she encouraged me to do this to protect her birds. Yee-ha!
-
The land owner asked that I not hunt with the .22 LR I had been using. I love this area because it is close and has an abundance of Fox Squirrels; so it was a no-brainer for me - hunting with the Discovery .22 was born. And I AM LOVING IT.
-
When I turned 11 I started hunting rabbits and grouse with a old 16 gauge shotgun. Problem was it took about three weeks worth of lawn mowing money to buy shells. One weekend I swapped a buddy some baseball stuff for a used crosman 760. It was nice because it took a couple of weeks worth of shooting to use up one of those little milk cartons full of BB's. My brother and I would take turns shooting stale ritz crackers, necco wafers and ice cubes behind the house.( the 'ol man didn't want to find any broken glass or shot up soda cans or the gun was gone) What's funny is here I am 45 years later doing the same stuff, I guess you never grow out of some things!
-
These have been some great stories! Keep them coming.

Got my Red Ryder from Santa in 1955 and didn't put my eye out. Fast forward to the early 90's and I bought a 5 acre plot and put up a gorgeous off-the-grid cabin to go play at. I decided that air guns would be far more neighbor friendly when other people were around at the other camps on our private road. I found an add for Compasseco and their SAG air guns, where if you bought 5 you got a nice discount. I asked 4 buddies if they'd like a pellet gun for $35 (I think they were costing me ~$32+change). When they arrived we mustered at my buddy's car shop and started plinking with our new B3-3's. Well, back then I was still actively "the Mailman", and next thing I knew I had guys stopping me on my route and wondering why I never asked them If they'd wanted one. Next thing I knew, I ordered 10 more, then 10 more and within the next year or so I had bought and sold over 100. The girls at Compasseco knew me by first name when I called!!!
In the meantime I spent my HUGE profits on a Gamo R77 and a Gamo 880 Hunter. Sold the camp a few years back and relegated the ag's to squirrel control (67 over two winters out of my neighbor's black walnut trees by way of my wife's birdfeeders). I moved 4+ yrs ago to a sweet little ranch where I set up a 10m range in my Man Cave. This past fall I did some cleaning, re-arranging, and built a shooting bench and of course snagged a couple new ag's to play with.
Then I started snooping around here (GTA), and the rest, as they say, is history!!! Sometimes very expensive history!! That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!!!!........................the Nailman

Just like Tom I started in the Baltimore area with a Model 25. We carried them everywhere (Yes to school).
The teacher lined them behind her desk. I still have the Model 25 although the gold leaf is long gone. I will be 69 next year, hunt everything that walks and flies. I first encountered adult air rifles in Berlin while stationed there 1974-79. At that time Berlin was still an occupied, post war environment so the German citizens could not own fixed ammunition firearms except shotguns (They could not keep shotgun ammo at home, though). Air rifles were their only option. Too, all game animals in Germany belong to the government so, why own PB guns? When Dr. Beeman bought out Air Rifle Headquarters and set up shop nearby in San Rafael, I became one of his best customers (I still am). I fire between 3000-4000 rounds of centerfire ammunition every year (Prairie rats, mostly). I shoot 10-12,000 pellets a year. I also still shoot the longbow and recurve a little each month. Retired, I have little else required of me.

I reckon it was the novelty of it as much as it was the anti-gun hysteria and resultant absence of .22 LR ammo. Although I'd had BB guns as a kid, I'd never had a pellet gun. Something prompted me to order a used Daisy Avanti 853 from the CMP about a year ago. WOW, five shots one hole at 10 M. That was four rifles and three pistols ago. ;D
Being long of tooth and of finite resources, I'm gonna' hold off on new guns for awhile and concentrate on making the ones I have better in this New Year....in my backyard. 8)

My new Talon pistol has ruined me for life. Now all I can think of is AirForce guns. I live on 3.5 acres with a 130 yard back yard. I love just hitting targets, pigeons, and those large black birds. I wish I had squirrels so I could make squirrel gravy and toast. :)
-
I originally got into it for starling and house sparrow control. I had tried trapping, but it wasn't as effective as needed for keeping them out of my purple martin and bluebird houses. I came to this site, looking for suggestions as to which airguns I should look at buying. After I started shooting, I found that I love target shooting, and was pretty much hooked. Then came the collecting.................;D

I grew up on 10 acres on the edge of a small town in Iowa. I loved to hunt squirrels and rabbits, but my .22 was too loud. Instead I got a Crosman 760, and later a 622. They are still my favorites, but they have been joined in my gun cabinet with a Crosman 99, 761XL, 600, 400, and 2250B. I have killed a LOT of cans in my garage with this arsenal!
-
I got into air gun as a kid. Got my first gun when I was six. Won it at a Wild Game Dinner, and have been shooting since. I like to hunt and shoot long distance with my ar 10 and other long range guns. Got back into them and started shooting long range. It helped better with my powder burner groups.

It was insanity. Yes, I plead insanity. :o

Another early Daisy Red Rider user. Got my first in 79 for my 10th birthday and had a 717 and also a pump 760 as a kid at the cabin. Took a few years off from air guns in my late teens through my 30s but owned a number of powder long guns and handguns. Not too long back my best friend wanted to get one to take care of a pigeon issue he was having and thought I should get one too.
Needless to say it all came back and I'm totally hooked. I actually sold him the Crosman Optimus I first bought and replaced it with some German and British hardware along with a Mike M tuned B26. Best part is I can not only shoot in the backyard but also indoors now that winter is here. I shoot more now than I ever have and love every minute of it.
Happy New Years everyone!

When I was a kid I had a few air rifles but started shooting a .22 rimfire and shotguns at about 11 years old and really didn't even think much about air guns for years. I did have a friend that had a Benjamin 342 and I was impressed with the power it had but never considered owning one. The reason I got into them as a adult is that I had a really bad rat problem that I couldn't take care of with traps and poison. My Hatsan 135 along with the extreme wet weather over the past year has pretty much wiped them out. In the process I found this site and bought a bunch of air guns. Air guns are definitely addictive.

I started USPSA pistol shooting three years ago and needed something to enhance my dry fire practice so I got a couple of Airsoft pistols and a BB CO2 blowback pistol ( or two ;)) After that I tried a cheap Crosman CO2 pellet rifle to shoot in my basement just for fun. Very quickly I realized the the accuracy was just not there, hence Diana34 to the rescue. And soon after that I discovered this forum and of course could not resist the Siren call of the TX200. :D
So, here I am with several airsoft and BB pistols, three pellet rifles, the basement range with a bench and a big, and growing, pile of empty pellet tins. And the best thing about it is that naw I can shoot any time I'm in the mood, several times a day, I don't have to drive to the range, and the ammo shortages do not concern me at all.

I wish I were 8 again, and what would be even more cool if I had a dad like me. :) I know I would have an AA510S.

Enjoy shooting as a kid. Cheaper then powder burner main reason!!!!!!!!!

Pest control! Primarily squirrels. I will eradicate them from:
1. My house
2. My neighborhood
3. All the rest of the places...

When I was about 8 or 9 we lived in rural northern Ohio. The neighbor kid seemed to have anything he ever wanted including a Daisy BB gun. I don't even remember what model. I begged and begged for one and finally, probably to shut me up, I got one. It lasted one day. I made the mistake of showing up at home with a robin nest full of eggs. they didn't beleive my story of how the mother abandoned them and I was going to hatch and raise them. The bb gun made it's way into the next family yard sale. About 6 months ago Betty Lou and I were in Walmart and a Daisy 880s caught my attention. I told Betty Lou the story from my childhood and it melted her heart (bless her (evil grin)). She told me that I should have a pellet gun. That was 20 airguns ago. So, I totally blame my addiction on Betty Lou and GTA. And I thank you for it. I have been successfully enabled and I promise to do my part to pay that forward. Now, who needs an airgun? I know a few places to buy them.

Betty Lou seems like such a nice lady. How were you lucky enough to catch her? I wouldn't let her go. :)

To save money due to rising ammo cost, boy was I wrong. But I would do it again in a heart beat.
-
for the quietness at first, then I bought my Hatsan Striker and now for hunting.

I really loved my Daisy till I turned 15 and I saw my next gun! It was a Gamo in .22 (springer) 8)

Been trying to tell you guys, the answer is pink airgun. You bring home a pink airgun and they just have to shoot it, they can't help themselves. And when someone shoots an airgun for the first time..... well, we all know what happens.
-
I was about 16 when I came across my first ARH catalog. I just fell in love with the airguns pictured in it. Wasn't till I was in my 20's that I finally bought my first springer, an HW50S. It was so much more fun than shooting a .22 rimfire rifle.
-
I have shoot muzzleloaders for years and about 10 years ago powder took a heck of a jump in price and my local dealer retired. I started shooting less and less.
About 3 years ago my wife and I started cleaning up the property where she grew up. It was in the country with no neighbors with in a 1/4 mile. I bought a Ruger Air Hawk and we started to shot it at the "farm." We both have enjoyable times killing cans and shooting swinging targets. We soon discovered the QB family and the P17s.
We went to North Dakota to see our son and his family. Well, since we was going to be in the neighborhood, we stopped by Flying Dragon Air Rifles, twice. We now have an air pump, a B51 and a B21. There may be a B50 in our very near future.

I had not seen any ..22 LR for sale for 10 months so I thought maybe this was a repacement until the .22 came available (if ever). It has been and I'm enjoying it. I'm still upset over the .22 and still have no satisfactory answer to whats going on.

;D Started as a city kid then at age 11 my parents moved us east on Long Island NY back then it was the country several dairy's and working farms in walking distance saved and bought a Daisy Model 1895 replica bb rifle fast forward 56 years and I am still hooked on shooting and adult AG's fill a nice place in my soon to be retired life ;D ;D ;D

Don't recall the year when I was given BB gun but I was in grade school at the time. I recall using it to get rid of unwonted birds that got into the barn and other farm buildings. In the spring of 1949 I was given a 22 RF rifle and lost all interest in bb guns. In the early 1980 I got a new Beeman R-1 bear outline 17 Cal with the damage front site for which I paid $ 70 some dollars.. I took off the open site and mounted a scope on it . I dident know a thing about air guns or pellets and air gun scopes so I set up targets at 10, 20, 30, 40,and 50 yards to see what the R-1 would do. That R-1 is accurate and used it to get rid of unwonted birds and shot a few cottontail rabbits with it. In the mid 90 there was a Beeman GS 1000 22 Cal with a scope on sale. Dident know the quality of the Beeman rifles had changed. I got 6 to 8 inch groups with it at 25 yards. Set it away and dident work on it until 2009. When I recrowned the muzzle , got smaller groups but not as good as the R-1. After being retired for ten years my old body stopped me from going big game hunting so I started going to garage sales, auctions and flea markets. Got a old Benjamin 312 which I repaired and then repaired a 20 Cal Sheridan rocker safety rifle for a friend. I enjoyed repairing and shooting the pump up air rifles. So since then I started collecting pump up Benjamin Co , Sheridan Co , and Benjamin -Sheridan models made by Crosman . So now at 78 years old I have a hobby that I can enjoy..
-
I just ordered a Benjamin 397 to try out the pump gun arena. Gonna put a Williams peep on it. It's more fun for me to shoot iron sights at close range. I hear what you say about the big game hunting. I'm 75 and my elk hunt last October was successful but it sure took a lot out of me also.

I was given my first air rifle at the age of 7 1970 a Crosman V350 I thought it was the best gun ever made!
Having lost my Dad in NAM and Mother in a car accident the spring of 1970.
My uncle (U.S. Marine) just back from Nam, He thought it would be a good way for us to speed time together doing things, he was right as far back as I can remember we were hunting, fishing, Shooting in our free time. and it all started with that air rifle.
Plus it was easy growing up in North Dakota where my closest neighbor was 4 miles away. ;D 1973 I got my first .22LR Cal Rifle and never looked back, shooting about 100 rounds a day till I was 16-17 then it was Girls & Cars. Then in the 1990's after my stent in the military, my house was over run with critters of all kinds not wanting to fill the house with holes I picked up a Crosman 1377 and did what I needed to do.
Moving forward my wife was in the Army and served in Iraq war, she loves to hunt and shoot fish and its kinda cool, then as my son came of age and it was my turn to bring him into shooting pick him up a Crosman GT1 Extreme , now he is a U.S. Marine and in Afghanistan Today.
Now it is away for me to have something to do during the day.
Well that's my story LOL

Can not remember how old I was when I got my first quail with a Benji pumper 45 years or so ago...
A friend gave me a non working Daisy 853 a little while ago.
Bang,
was hooked again
I love to tinker,
Hitting a quarter at 30 yards reliably with almost 160-170 fps more than stock just by refining what was there to begin with...

Well lets see, I had the privilege to live on an 8+ acre farm from age 10 to about 15. I got my first airgun shortly before that, and loved to hunt with my very under powered little daisy springer lever gun. Even managed to shoot down a dragonfly once (wasted about 300 bb's on that endeavor!)
So, now at age 45 I love hunting and the outdoors, and shooting sports, but find myself a victim of the economy (and my poor financial decisions) and not able to afford regular trips to the dessert to shoot. I get to shoot my firearms maybe 5 to 6 times a year. I wanted something to shoot in the backyard, and I have a rat infestation in my dilapidated storage shed on the property we rent in town, so I wanted it capable of eliminating rats. My meager budget said no to the nice guns I've seen since looking into airguns so when my birthday rolled around (Dec 6th) I said the heck with it, and spent $40 I couldn't afford on a Daisy 880S combo kit. The scope stunk so I modified the gun to take the scope mounts for an OLD (50+ years) rifle scope I took off the 30-06 I inherited and mounted that. Its power deficient, I estimate it has 3x or so, but its clear and it works great for a sub 25 yard airgun. Now here I am trying to learn all I can about Airguns, (much the same as I do for my other shooting addiction, Muzzle loaders)

I'm about footballed out. Today is a cold, cloudy and very windy 60° here in east Texas and it's forecast to get a whole lot worse. Even so, I could, and did, take four different air guns, one at a time, out the back door and comfortably shot 60 or so pellets off my bench on the patio without using a drop of diesel or gasoline. Did I mention that the total cost of today's ammo was maybe $1.25?

How did you shoot with te wind we are having. My pellets are hitting 3 to 4 mil-dots to the right @ 70 yards.

I only shot at 10 M and was okay with one hole groups with all but the 2289. I did have to try and time my shots to when the target wasn't moving. My Daisy Avanti 853 is truly amazing. :-*
Given the weather report, today is gonna' have to hold me for awhile.

gave up air gunning years ago when i discovered the .22CB cap.
when the town outlawed shooting them in my area i went back to air guns...even more so now that theres no more 22 rimfire.
-
My older brother had a daisy rifle, a good friend had five or six air rifles so I was able to enjoy them but never had my own. Finally at 51 years old I said it was time to get my own so I bought my RWS 350. I don't have the land for shooting a powder burner so an air gun is perfect for my yard. I probably should have bought one years ago so I could have enjoyed it more with my two boys earlier. Anyways I am looking forward to building up my collection of air guns.

This 2nd to last response has me a little concerned. Let's not read into it too much, and not start a discussion on that please. Perhaps in the Back Room, but not here. On with the thread's original intent.
I got back into airguns after 25 years because of pest control on my property, plus I love to shoot. I also discovered that today's adult airguns are nothing like the ones I was using when I was a teenager so that had a lot to do with it too.

I wrote one response to the question but it disappeared. If it shows up anywhere else, a double post is unintended.
I used to hunt small game---quail, squirrels and rabbit--- when in season. The rest of the time, groundhogs were my favorite target. My grandfather was a farmer with a small place (82 acres) on which to hunt. I knew all his neighbors and they would allow me to hunt as well. When my grandfather died the farm was sold. Over time the neighbors passed on or sold out so there went my prime groundhog hunting ground. I figured that shooting targets in my backyard with my .243 or .22/.250 wasn't a good idea so--remembering my childhood Red Ryder ..I responded to a request from my kids concerning birthday present, and asked for a pellet rifle. That's how my addiction started.

The challenge of putting something so small exactly where you want it at a range of 30-50 yds. To deal with all the variables of springers and break barrels in general is quite a blast for me. I also really enjoy the practice it gives me without having to deal with the use of PB's. Down range impact is always a concern with whatever you use. ...Besides AG's are just fun and cheaper. I was hooked the first time I shot my Daisy 51 yrs ago when I was 9. I sure miss that old gun :-\ John

NJ just passed the OK to hunt for squirrel and rabbits with air rifles. So i went out and got one. I like shooting it.

I suffer from PMS in the winter. (Parked Motorcycle Syndrome)
Once it gets too cold to ride and then even too cold to do any rebuild/restore work on the bikes in the shop, I have to have something fun to do with what free time I have.
Living within city limits, firearms are out of the question. Not enough free time to drive somewhere to shoot when I want. Pellet guns have the green light where I live as long as they are not used for malicious intent or recklessly. It was just the most logical answer. Just wish I could get more than 40 Yards of clear shooting. But at least I can shoot when I want.
Knowing some of the local LEOs who know and understand the city ordinance helps when the neighbors call and report me shooting in the back yard.
Of course I jumped into the hobby deep with a lot of 9 rifles. Just seems to be my tendency, like the 4 bikes in my garage. And the same, "a different one for different use" applies.
With the cold weather the last few days, I have started laying out a 10 Yard single lane in my basement.
All I need now it a good trap that my QB25 and B21 won't destroy.

I wish I had a little pest problem to take care off. Instead I kill paper targets really good!
The pest problem cost me more in repairs than what I have, and spent currently, on this "hobby".
Trust me, the paper is a better option.
I too had a pest problem but wanted to keep the damage to the house limited if any. So, I picked up a Crosman M4-177 and made a crude pellet/bb trap and started practicing my shooting. For some reason the pest went away. However, I enjoyed shooting the gun and started reading about air guns and built a better pellet/bb trap, and bought another gun. I read more, made/printed targets, built another pellet/bb trap, bought another gun plus accessories and the cycle continues.
I'm hooked and really enjoy my shooting time and killing paper targets.

Pure and simple enjoyment of fine equipment and precision shooting

I gave up booze. Airguns provide an alternative outlet. This hobby sure does empty a wallet, but, at least I can know remember what i had for dinner the night before.

Well when I was young I learned to hunt with high power .177 Multi Stroke Pneumatics (MSP), then as time passed and I lived in places where I could not hunt I did not think about AirGuns at all for a long time.
Last year I got to talking about .22 Crosman Airguns with some that I know, and decided to get a 2289g and see what I could do with it. So I quickly remembered why I love AirGuns, and I am in the process of getting some land in Ohio to move out there near family away from town, and I will be getting back to hunting again, and this got me into looking at the different MSP Air Guns. It did not take me long to get interested in modifying these guns, and I quickly learned to make some significant improvements to the power of the Crosman MSPs, and Daisy is next on my list.
And that Is how i got back into AirGunning.
-
They are cheap, quiet, challenging, a lot less of a hassle than firearms, I can shoot them in town, etc.
-
My dad had some nice target pistols when I grew up, among them a Walther LP2 which I could cock and shoot.
Kinda lost track of airguns for almost 30 years, found this forum and got hooked again!
-
I got into airgunning when I saw that my friend had few pumpers that shot pretty well and they were quiet and I in turn ended up loving them. So I bought myself a Daisy model 880 then got one of those chinese underlevers and used that for a few years then I got Gamo CFR and the rest is history.
-
Started off with a gamo big cat. For one, I wanted to practice in the back yard and shoot on the cheap. But I also got it for the nostalgia of shooting pellet guns- although it was a huge upgrade from the pumpers of my youth. What really hooked me, though, was my first time hunting as an adult. I had a stoeger X10 that was incredibly accurate, and I got a squirrel and a rabbit and that was it. Maximum satisfaction and fun. Took Mr. Squirrel from around 40 yards. Dead accurate and plenty of power for small game, dirt cheap to shoot. Fast forward about 6 years and I am half a dozen home tunes in, plus now I have a sweet .25 cal magnum breakbarrel with a pro tune I got for Christmas. It is an addiction. I probably shot 40 rounds of buckshot at work today, and I got to blow up a big 5 gallon Ozarka bottle with it at the end, but I probably had just as much fun zeroing my little boys' X3 at 7 yards after work. Hitting tiny targets with tiny pellets is challenging and fun!

My wife's fault. She gave me a Cabala's catalog and said look at it. I found airguns and it's been downhill ever since

to shoot little holes in things. i am 8 on the inside, i just grew adult-looking layers over that part.

I suffer from PMS in the winter. (Parked Motorcycle Syndrome)
^^LOL, I'll have to remember that one.
Like many here, I got back into airguns (had a few as a kid) due to the fact that I love to shoot. I used to take trips to the range with my PB's all the time, until it got prohibitively expensive. My Dad shoed me what modern air guns were capable of a couple of years ago and shortly after that, I picked one up for myself. I'm really enjoying it, and I enjoy the tinkering and tuning aspect of it, which is actually something all my hobbies have in common.

I started as a 13 yr old with an old crosman. Dad was on strike so I was popping rabbits and squirrels in the backyard to supplement our diet. Mom about gagged but she choked enough down to keep from starving. It went on from there until I was old enough for modern rifles and traded in the air guns (mistake). I had the crosman pumper, a blue streak, healthways plainsman BB CO2 gun, a crosman CO2............and probably a few more. It has been more than 50 years so I forgot a lot. Recently a friend of mine passed away and his widow gave me he benjamin/sheridan 392PA. It wasn't working so I did a little research and got the parts from Crosman. In no time it was working. Of course I had to try it out so I set up a small 15 ft range in the basement. With old eyes and open sights I didn't have much hope but WOW I managed to put 5 through the same large hole. Then I saw a Daisy 880 and bought that. Two pumps and it is also deadly accurate at short ranges. So now I spend an hour every evening punching targets from an off-hand position. It can only make me a better shot with my flintlock guns once this %&^*% winter is over. I also found an old crosman pumper pellet pistol (.177) that I may try my hand at improving with a stock and longer barrel, red-dot sight, other stuff as long as I don't squander too much of the social security check on this hobby.

Welcome back, you may want to consider a parttime job...

As I think about it my previous statement was not completely correct. You see I never really got out of AirGuning, just reduced it for a few years (ok a decade).
I started when I was 8 years old, beginning with Rabbit hunting with an older wood stock gun of my Grandpas, at the time my practice gun was a Crosman 760. When I was 10 and my Grandpa thought that I was responsible enough he gave me a Daisy Air Riffle that was powerful enough to hunt with. I just finished looking at some really old stuff and that gun was a Daisy 880 (I had forgotten the model).
My grandpa taught me to hunt with AirGuns and he always hunted with the AirGuns. He told me that Airguns are better than Powder burners because they do not cause as many problems and they are generally a lot quieter than the powder burners. This had nothing to do with my age as he maintained this line into my adulthood. At some point in there some one decided to outlaw hunting with Airguns where we lived at the time :( (that decision has since been reversed).
I maintained a more passive interest after that and almost always had a pellet rifle. Then last year I got back into Airgunning heavily.

Just what I need, another expensive hobby. With multiple slipped, ruptured, and crushed discs, I do need a less physically punishing hobby.
Probably best that my doctor and my chiropractor both advised strongly against this one:

It was fun for a while but something I should have tried maybe 20 years ago.

i air gun because--
-because gas is $3.19-$4.50 an the range or other is 35 miles+.......
1. space restrictions.
2. distance to safe range for pb's. (ppg/mpg)
3. pb ammo cost....
4. general histaria about "bad" looking airguns.
-
The rabbits and squirrels were giving me fits in the vegetable garden......don't mess with my fresh veggies! Now I'm looking for another gun case to accommodate all the springers! ;)

Yep! Same here. Those critters owe me some meat for all the seedlings and sprouts they nibbled off to ground level.
The local firearm ranges are 25 and 35 miles away and rimfire ammo has gotten way to pricey! Can shoot pellets in the back yard and keep a low profile.

I live in Arizona, never have to suffer from that particular stygma. I still find time for my airgun, and occasionally my PB's as well.

Cuz it'd be too dangerous to shoot my .38 in the back yard w/ all those houses on the other side of the woods. ;)

Yea and neighbors and cops just don't have any sense of humor regarding such things! ;D I had a pool guy servicing the next door pool give me a sideways look and act all nervous when I was shooting my 880s in my back yard..

I used to shoot every single day when I was a kid.[Red Ryder] Joined the Army, and got out of airguns. One day about 5 years ago I saw a Big Cat on sale and thought it would be fun. I was hooked. Been down hill ever since. I love my powder burners but I LOVE my airguns.
