Title: GTA donation funds question.
Post by: Sqrl Klr on December 06, 2013, 12:16:02 PM
I see on my profile donations page that there is difference of a few dollars between the total amount of money that I've donated here and the amount of it that GTA was actually able to keep. Since it appears that Paypal is charging GTA fees for receiving donations then is there a way for GTA to setup a gift option in it's paypal account so when users here send donations it will go through the gift option on paypal where GTA doesn't get charged any fees?

Nope, PayPal has done away with the "gift" to friends option. They will get their fee no matter what.
:)
The fee is partially why we changed the raffle rules a while back requiring a minimum of $5 donation to enter. Folks were donating $1 and after fees, didn't leave a whole lot for GTA. Thanks for noticing and MANY thanks for the donations to keep the doors open here!!!!

Is there another popular pay site that has a gift option that GTA could use? Shame they charge you fees for donations and got rid of the gift option too.

PayPal is very secure for all and we are established there. We have no issues, other than their fees, so we prefer to stay with them.

Oh ok yah that makes sense.

You have a mailing address where people could send a check or money order that way you would have no fees? If donors were concerned about the delay of being allowed to get a raffle # for their donation due to the shipping time then I guess they could post a picture of the USPS receipt or post a tracking # link for quicker approval of a raffle #. Just thinking out loud and I know the fees aren't hurting GTA bad enough to be a problem anyway since there are so many donors lately which is nice.

LOL
Appreciate the interest, concern and comments. Good subject to address for those that are new to the raffles.
We do have an address to mail money orders or checks to. Money orders cost also, as well as stamps and envelopes. So either way, a fee of some sort comes into play. And as far as the numbers, if paid by money order or check, I trust our members enough to post their picks immediately without waiting on the snail mail. BUT, if they win, we will verify the payment WAS sent in prior before sending the prize.
Good questions though!!!

hehehe Well that way the donor would incur fees instead of GTA which would be the main plus of going that route. Good way to do business....trust but verify like one of our former presidents said.

The gift option now has the sender paying the fees, rather than deducting from the receiver. They calculate their cut when you hit the send button, for your approval.

Well if Paypal does indeed still have the gift option then I would personally prefer to do that and pay the fees instead of making GTA pay them. Nothing wrong with copying GTA's paypal account email address and manually sending a donation to GTA that way I guess instead of using the donation link here which charges GTA fees for donations.
