Title: 50cal ammo can bullet trap with pics
Post by: gard72977 on December 02, 2013, 11:37:18 PM
I was thinking that a 50cal ammo can would make a great small pellet trap. I used the mill and a 1/2 end mill to cut out the lid. One thing to know is the lid is double wall and will come apart if you machine it too close to the edges. I put it at 45 yds to set the sight for the Ram silhouettes. Took 3 shoots and went to check the results. Needless to say this did not work as expected. The little trap will now be used for light powered pistols like my Gamo compact. had to show off this incredible 3 shot group at 45 yds, open sights shot off hand with a RWS 350 Mag 177. The grid is 1". I could not do this again.

I melted 5lb of lead in the bottom of the can. It looks like this is going to hold up pretty good.  If it gets to bad I can always just melt it and start over. If I was doing it again I think 10lb would be about right.
