I saw a Sheridan Blue Streak that has the barrel partially separated from the tube, near the breech . How is this repaired ? What are typical costs to have it done ? THANKS !

Personally I would contact Tim at MAC1 in California. Top notch smith on the sheridans and father of the steroid rifle.

I know it is blasphemy to deface these relics, but I fixed mine with JB weld, and it is quite happy now. There was separation, and an actual hump at the rear sight that had an attempted solder repair; I believe it just made things worse. The gun came to me like that undisclosed by the seller. I considered a solder repair, but since the rest of the barrel and breech were still well attached, I opted to glue it. Proper prep, followed by a carefully applied full length fillet of epoxy worked great. Painted with satin outdoor furniture paint. It's now a favorite, tk

If I understand you correctly , you applied J.B.Weld under the area of the barrel, where it is loose, then the entire length of the barrel ????
-
I thoroughly sanded the area between the barrel and tube with 60 grit, filed down the solder mess someone made, degreased, clamped the hump down and applied a full length fillet, smoothing with a shaped stick. One side at a time to prevent sagging. The finished fillet was almost perfect, but a little sanding after the cure addressed any proud spots. It really does look great. BTW, throw the rear sight away and get a peep, please, tk
-
OK.
I am sure it looks better than the electric tape that is wrapped around it !! THANK YOU !
-
If the breech is loose at all, I don't think JB is a good idea; probly need to disassemble, clean, realign and solder. This gun should be REALLY cheap, tk

A picture of your finished work would me nice. ;) I know I want to see it. ;D

I.ve tried; can't get them small enough, tk

The barrel of his is loose the last 6 inches of the rear. I asked him if he would sell it . He said he wanted $75. It looks nice except for the separation & is probably made in the 70's .

That looks really cool DD789. Is it now a Steroid? And what is the significance of the extended shroud? Either way it looks pretty bad @@@.
-
Problem with solder on the rear section is that there is stuff inside that you might melt, then have a mid-size job turn into a major mess on you. Best to send it in for solder and re-seal at the same time, Mac-1 would be my choice. $75 sounds a bit high, given what it will take to make it right. Top value might be $150 after repair/reseal, so take cost to get the work done into account when making your offer.
-
Solder is normally a $25 add on to a Dan Repair. Figure a Rocker with a Steroid Reseal, front plug and solder job will run about $150. Please don't send me any that have been JB welded. That is way too much work to resolder. Once they have been glued get a good size Zip Tie to hold it down and live with it. For guns that have not yet had a solder joint issue, get the rear sight off there, before WE SEE dEjA vU ALL OVER AGAIN.

Mr. Mac1 is absolutely correct; once you glue it that's it, as it would be just too much work to decontaminate the area. I made the choice knowing that, and it has worked out well in my case. Solder is proper, no doubt..... So, if it's gonna take 150.00 or so to make this one good, plus another 30-50.00 two way shipping, the guy should give you the gun and a 50.00 bill, lol. The upside is it would be better than new when you get it back. Sometimes these older things are just not financially viable to repair. A shame, but true, tk

Yes it's had Tim's magic work done ;D ;D ;D Let's just say it's a little more backyard friendly ;) not that I have to worry about that I have 2 acres still have to be aware of where I shoot. ;D Just got back from my shootn buddy's doing a little scope tweaking then shooting oak balls of the trees ;D

No difference on prices between a Silver and a Blue. Soldering is a little trickier as we are trying not to upset the nickel finish.

My fix for my childhood 1976 SS. I recently had my Dad send it to me. The barrel was separated to the point you could actually see under the barrel not just see light. Once I popped off the rear sight the barrel relaxed to just being able to see light in a small area. I put just enough tension on the wires to bring the barrel all the way down. I reattached the rear sight with a newer version of the triangle grips that look more stamped than solid that held the sight much looser but still tight. The barrel did not rise any at all. She shoots as straight as she ever did.
Maybe one day if she ever needs to be resealed I will get it repaired but just don't want to disturb "Precious" too much. It is the gun that started it all for me.
Thanks to everyone for a really great site full of info.

The rifle doesn't need anything except soldering. How much would that cost, alone ?

Tppjr,
Believe me I understand your attachment and affection toward the rifle. But I can honestly tell you Timmy will not remove the 'soul' of your rifle. He actually rejuvenates and empowers it!! Your ''baby'' will come home FAR BETTER then it left and will be ready for LIFETIMES of service for your family!!
19sheridan57,
I recommend you call Tim directly.

I will stand corrected if mistaken, but in order to solder, the guts must be removed, which means a reseal. Another reason I glued mine; it had just been resealed by the "tuner" that sold it to me with the separated barrel. it was shooting great, so that, plus the degree of separation helped me decide to do the wrong thing. In that "tuners" defense, he said he was a springer guy and didn't know a lot about Sheridans. Anyone could see what was up with that barrel, tk

Actually Tim already has a beautiful 1977 BS that I picked up for a full steroid treatment and peep install and I have a RW 342 on it's way to me which will follow the BS to Tim. This one will get the tootsie treatment as well. If "precious" ever needs a reseal I will send it in and get the barrel done too but until then she sits in the #1 (airgun) slot in the safe.
