Title: Walther LG55 Tyrolean
Post by: JimHP on November 06, 2013, 09:49:40 AM
Hello Everyone,
I am relatively new to air gunning but that has not stopped me from going hog wild on purchases.  I have been pouring over the classifieds and on a few occasions noticed someone selling a beautiful gun called an LG55 with Tyrolean stock. I watched as they all sold too! So, I spent time reading about them and decided if another became available I would buy it. Well, sure enough a beautiful LG55 became available and I jumped. It has been re-blued and tuned by Paul Watts.

It arrived yesterday and it truly is a gorgeous gun. I just shot it a few times and am amazed at how comfortable it feels and easy to cock! Nice for a young man of 63! For some reason I expected it to be heavy. Not at all. I just tightened the back sight on where it seems to fit. Hopefully I got that correct. Do you guys use the "artillery hold" with this gun? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Jim

Yes, you'll want to use the artillery hold to attain the maximum accuracy possible.

These older springer target rifles have quite modest power in proportion to their weight, and are not too hold sensitive compared to a lot of the over-sized, over-powered stuff out there now--especially one that Paul has worked his magic on!  No springer appreciates a death grip I guess, but I don't think you'll need to worry too much about executing the perfect artillery hold, either.

My advice, just take it out and shoot the heck out of it, and enjoy getting to know it better!

I agree with that approach. One thing I am finding that is interesting. The LG55 has a light trigger pull which I am liking very much. Last night after shooting the LG55 for two days I decided to shoot my .20 R9 which was tuned and I thought had a light trigger! It felt like was easily pulling the gun off target the trigger pull was so hard. Again, this is a nice tuned R9 and before shooting the LG55 I really liked the trigger pull. Now, I'm going to see if I can reduce the weight needed to pull the trigger on the R9.
