i am looking to buy a new hand pump for my marauder i have read how some people have bought benji pumps /airforce pumps and added their own moisture filters to them. i was wondering if anyone would comment on how well its worked and how long the pump has lasted. i had a benji that died 1 year in the inside was so bad it couldnt be rebuilt tore apart my marauder and it looked bad inside too so i am scared to get another one of these and do more damage to gun. also was wondering if the same could be done to air venturi g4 pump are g4s any good or am i just gonna have to bite the bullet and buy the hill. thank you all in advance for any info.

Ed - I don't shoot PCP. From what I've read I would strongly recommend the Hill pump if you must buy a replacement.
Any pump can be used with a dessicant input, if its input is at one specific point. Dry air is preferable to fresh air. You will have to replace or dry the dessicant from time to time. Silica gel can be baked dry and does give a color change indication when it begins to pick up moisture.

I own an Air Force pump and have had no problems with it.
Of course I'm a casual shooter and don't use it hard.
Most of the time I shoot CO2 in my TalonSS and my Disco.
Small back yard and basement range don't need HPA.
My MRod is always used with HPA because I don't want to alter the factory valve settings.
Otherwise I'd probably use CO2 in it also.
I built my own dessicant filter from hardware store parts, because that was the easiest option at the time.
I've never needed to open my pump or rifle tanks, so I don't know their inside condition.
They work fine, so I don't fix what ain't broke.
I see that you live in Red Bluff. High humidity definitely isn't a problem there, is it?
My daughter and family live outside French Gulch. Good shootin' there. No neighbors.
My next visit will be next summer for the grand daughter's high school graduation.
Keep cool, if that's possible.

I opened the airtube on my PCP recently. It is made of aluminum and was very clean inside. I was expecting to see some kind of lube coating inside it, there wasn't any. So, having a hand pump spitting some water into the tube doesn't seem to be a problem here.

no not much humidity here . i bought my marauder from a guy in chico he had the whole package pump/gun for 8 mos. i had the gun 4 mos. and then the pump started fighting me real bad pushing back up by itself. i cant honestly say how the guy treated the pump before i got it but when i got it i did 50 pumps let it rest. i took it apart to rebuild it and it was pretty ugly inside. i guess i will just have to buy the hill because i dont want a pump that i am told not to touch by the manufacturer. hill seems to be the only one that sells rebuild kits as far as i can tell online. thanks guys

here's the dessicant kit for benji pumps. http://www.opticsplanet.com/sun-optics-desiccant-kit-for-high-pressure-hand-pump.html (http://www.opticsplanet.com/sun-optics-desiccant-kit-for-high-pressure-hand-pump.html)
just call Sun Optics for a repair kit when you need one.

Hey edweird, i say bite that bullet and get the hill. In a year and a half mine works excellent. Just follow recommended maintanence like luding and changing out the dry pack. Im sure youve seen on this forum anyone who has this pump likes it. I had bad luck with my air force pump, but im the guy who buys a brand new ferrari and has it break down on me leaving the dealership. From what ive read the benji, airforce pumps are hit and miss. Im going against the grain here, i bought a used benji pump of the classifieds here on gta, and it worked great for a few months. I had to do a rebuild on it two or three times in the 3yrs iv had it. And i use it ALOT. Since i added an inline dessicant filter, the maitnance is just a few drops of tranny fluid in key places. It has been good to me.
PS: i guess i should mention that i used some metal polish and made some of the internals sparkle on the second rebuild. The pump rod needed special attention, but now it works like a charm. Sun optics sent me a free rebuild kit with a ton of the necessary orings the first time i had issues. It had enough parta for two complete rebuilds. I think they sell the rebuild kit for $10 or something.
Very reasonable IMHO.
Im not saying "dont get a hill" or anything, im just saying, your ford will perform as well as your ferrari as long as you take care of it and arent afraid to turn some wrenches. ;)

I will add to the above post, I too have a benji pump, but, I would ask what your fill pressure is on the mrod.
The benjiman pump will do 2000-2500 psi fills all day, but it don't like to do 3000 psi fills as easy as the fx pump or the hill pumps do.
I have all my rifles set up for 2000psi fills, or less, my marauder included.
Also, I get more fills from my scba tank at 2000psi fill.
Mine has the sun optics dessicant system, I think there has to be better systems out there, but something is better than nothing.
Rebuilds are easy, 15 minutes tops.
I have both, tanks and pumps.
And use them interchangeably.
Just depends on the circumstances

If You have the $ Hill is the best.. Been there with Benji, G4 pump.. Now have Hill, and I am satisfied. Wish I wouldn't have spent the money on others.. 2 cent
