Title: Trail NP XL Parts Now Available From Crosman
Post by: LongIslandArcher on December 08, 2010, 03:09:39 AM
I have done several gas ram conversions on the Super Streaks - one of which was for Ezman.

Well, the first conversion I did, using a first generation Walther Falcon gas ram, died.  So I ordered a Trail NP XL gas ram from Crosman and I have it now in my possession to install into the aforementioned Super Streak.  The ram rod on this gas ram is a larger diameter, so a new ram rod end receiver will have to be fabricated, if I go that route.  The gas ram body is also shorter than the one for the Walter Falcon gas ram, so I'll have to fabricate a new ram rod end receiver to make up that difference in length.

My question is: do the Trail NP XL piston sleeve fit inside the Super Streak?  Because if it does, I may as well pick up one of those and get a direct drop in conversion.   If nobody knows, I guess I could just buy those parts and find out for myself.

I haven't seen anyone post that they had made a piston swap,... and since Crosman has not made XL parts available other than to send replacement gas rams to those who have had their's fail (just got mine this week), I'd say no one has yet swapped....unless Dave has tried it while his guns were apart ???

However, both pistons use the same seal,... and pix I've seen of both pistons, they look very similar externally.

I say, ask if the XL piston can be returned if for some reason it doesn't fit, and if they say yes, go for it.

You had my hopes up for a 25cal. barrel for my XL1100, but alas, they're still not available. Was told to try back after the first of the year.  :'(

Okay, I'm ordering the internal parts for the XL and hope that it fits.  If not, it won't be too big of a hit to the wallet.

So,will Crosman send gas ram to customer for do-it-yourself installation?
Or you have to send your gun there?

They'll sell you anything they have available, but you risk the warranty if you do it yourself. That said, they usually agree to take back and exchange AG's if they know you've been working on them and having still having trouble(IF you sound like you know what you're doing), but don't leave any mods on the gun if you want them back. Very few folks have gotten the same AG back if it goes in for a repair, they just send out a new one.

The gas ram for the Benjamin Trail NP XL is $35 from Crosman.  They sent it to me for my own installation pleasure.

Then again, the NP XL has a screw on end cap and doesn't require a spring compressor to remove and install, so I don't know if they'll send you a regular NP or NPSS gas ram to install yourself, unless you can prove you can do the work yourself.  I sent Ed Schultz pictures of my spring compressor when I needed a replacement gas ram for my NPSS, so he knew I could do the replacement myself.  I sent him the bad gas ram and he sent me a new one - one that shoots 14.3 grain pellets at 800 fps.
