Title: How to fix/reduce 30fps power curve on Walther Dominator 1250 40j version
Post by: LionHeart on October 18, 2013, 04:17:00 AM
This Dominator 1250 in .22 is my first PCP and its a 40j version. I am dealing with 30fps spread from 250bar to 150 bar pressure b/w 32 shots. I want to reduce this power curve if not completely then at least max up to 20fps spread is acceptable for me. Before I successfully test my gun at 24fpe with only 10fps spread in b/w 40shots which is very good accuracy but I would like to set my gun around 28-30fpe which should give me 30-32 shots within 10-20fps spread (acceptable).

Anyone can help/expert advise?  How can i be able to do it ?
Regards,

Welcome to the GTA! Sorry I can't help but you might want to post in the PCP Darksiders gate

Welcome to GTA, and as above, better help on the Dark side...

A chart of the fps from start to finish, or at least Ascending, Descending or a bellcurve would be nice to know...

no the gun is NOT regulated John
and no easy way to adjust the hammer spring preload
can't attach the exploded view because of size

I've only used the 1250 one time ("I hated it, awfull trigger and ALL the WARNING stapms all over, but hey all airguns are good and I hope you enjoy yours!).
I may be wrong but that IS a regulated rifle correct? And if so the only right way to adjust is to work with the reg, if leaving the reg factory set and messing with pre-load & such well ya just dont know.
Keep us posted.
John

Dear All,
Thanks for your welcoming note.  Finally my gun is set @930fps with JSB 15.9gr. From 250bar to 155bar It is giving 30 shots with only 10fps spread.  It about 30.5fpe.

Now my 2nd question to all of you experts. Will this jsb 15.9gr pellets @930fps avg. will do the best in accuracy at long ranges like 100-140yards?  I mean for pellets stability at this speed?

In my Marauder Bull pup shoot the JSB 15.9 @ 920 fps
At 100 meters can hit iron chicken silhouettes 9 of 10 shots most days in calm winds.

Tho ... will say 100 meters and beyond for a .22 cal PCP is WAY THE HECK OUT THERE !!! and while for giggles do it,  strongly feel that range is beyond practical use or hunting for a .22 cal air rifle.

Thanks for your reply,  as a matter of fact I am new to this PCP world and this is my first ever set-up so I am experiencing/learning new things everyday. I use CB-625 mk4 chrono and my last chrono test (930fps avg) done at night (under nominal light bulb) but next day I chrono again in day light (at noon) so average fps result is 915fps? (I tested 3-4 times more to confirm) So this is what happened normally i mean different reading from Night and Day light tests ?

Secondly, I normally don't hunt or consider this long ranges like (100 - 150 yards) for purely hunt purposes, I more like bench rest shooting (long range plinking, paper grouping, fun shooting etc) So in that contest I would like to do the best possible result/achievement out of my Walther Dominator 1250 therefor I should know the max/best possible limits of my equipment.

Your 100 meter 9/10 hitting is really great so I guess your iron chicken silhouettes size/height would be like 2 inches?  Actually I am looking/hoping for .5 inch grouping at 50yards and around 1 inch at 100yards.

That is MOA accuracy and very doable with a well tuned rifle pellet combo in a PCP.

I would suggest that if you are shooting 930 fps with 15.9 gr. Exacts you try the 18.1 gr. Jumbos.... Although the trajectory won't be as flat, they will buck the wind better for long range use, partly because of the weight, and partly because the 15.9 gr. are being pushed fast enough they are getting out of the range where they have the best BC....
