Title: mm xs28m
Post by: Caleb on October 16, 2013, 06:09:24 PM
Well I just pulled the trigger on an xs28m .22 from flying dragon with a full tune from Mike. I absolutely can't wait for it to get here I've been shooting this walmart beeman every day for a month ready to upgrade! As a noob I'd like to thank all of you guys for being so helpful to all of us that are new. I may not have many posts but I've done a lot of reading on here and the wealth of info on this forum is second to none.

Any thought on a leapers accushot 3-12x44 swat? And do I need a droop compensator or the mount that dosent comp?

Whats your price range for a scope?  I just bought a Hawke etched glass Panorama for $175.  Congrats on that new rifle. My tuned  gas ram xs46u will be here Friday

Thanks and congrats on your rifle as well. I don't really know a price range yet gonna wait to order til she's broke in before I get any glass. Just curious about what scopes will hande the recoil of this thing!

Congrats on the new gun.  I am digging mine big time.  I will give you the short version of my efforts to mount a scope.  (shorter anyway)  I am on my third scope and second mount.  Here is how I got here.

Mine required a droop compensating mount.  I picked up this one.  It is branded Beeman here but is the UK Sportsmatch mount as mine had the sticker from the UK company

  https://www.pyramydair.com/product/beeman-5039-1-pc-adjustable-mount-w-1-rings-high-9-5-11mm-dovetail?a=1932 (https://www.pyramydair.com/product/beeman-5039-1-pc-adjustable-mount-w-1-rings-high-9-5-11mm-dovetail?a=1932)

My first scope was a Centerpoint from Wally World.  It shook apart almost instantly.  20 to 30 shots in the guts fell out of the windage adjustment.  I also noticed at this time that the rail had come loose (others have experienced this as read here).  Clean off the oil and locktite, all seems well to this point.

Centerpoint goes back and I order a 4 - 16x44 Hawke from the Varmint series.  The Hawke might have been bad to begin with or it may have been something I had done but the rifle claimed its second victim.  Xisico two and glass zero.

I got far enough with the second scope to find that it ran out of elevation adjustment as was still not where it should be at ten yards.  I posted about a mount and was lead to the Beeman.  I like the mount but had issues getting it sorted.  The arrestor pin is a loosed fit in the mount so drifted up with each shot until the mount started moving.  I taped the hole in the mount for a set screw and that solved the problem.  I also (carefully) drilled out the hole in the rail to give the arrestor pin a bit more depth.

The mount is a pain in the rear to adjust as it is trial and error with partial disassembally required for every change in adjustment.  If all you require is a bit of extra elevation Hawke makes a mount that should be much easier to set than the Beeman/Sportsmatch.

If you also require a windage adjustment then the UK mount seems to be the best choice but does have its issues.

I have the replacement Hawke scope mounted and all seems well with the gun shooting to POI with little to no adjustment required from the scope to get there.

All of the above being said my primary use for the gun is hunting with a dog so all shots are within 75 feet max.  I am getting rid of the scope and mount and going to a receiver sight.

Good luck however you choose to go and let me know if I can help in any way.  Steve

Thanks steve, I had a feeling this was a scope killer. I'm still waiting for the rifle to arrive ups says monday and like I said I'm gonna shoot iron sights til she's broke in but I do want a scope and that mount in the link looks promising. Is there an easy way to see if I have barrel droop? Will it just shoot really low? Sorry if that's a dumb question but just trying to make sure I get the right one. Thanks again guys. Man I am so hooked on airgunning it is rediculous I'm trying hard not to just go haywire and order all these great guns I see lol

Good luck with not ordering everything you see.  Its an addiction!

If you have a scope and mount the easiest thing to do would be mount them and take a couple of shots.  Count your clicks to make sure you are in the middle and see what happens.  Hold to center mass on your target and see where it groups.

I could not say if the one size fits all when it comes to things like droop.  For all I know yours might be just fine.

Once I had a few issues sorted everything was fine.

A good clean & lube-tune will go a long way towards taking the edge off the scope-killing recoil shock.  Read up on how to strip it down (definately want to make a spring compressor), clean the heck out of the insides, smooth every sharp edge, and use the right lube products in the right places when you put it back together.  (You can find out how to do all that using the search feature...shoot me an email if you have any questions).
Mine was a different (better) rifle after tuning.  I'm currently using a Simmons Pro-Air 6-18x40 scope; over 1000 shots with zero issues (and that's not a "heavy recoil rated" scope).
Mine does not have barrel droop at all, but I did epoxy the scope rail to the action as a precautionary measure.
I think it's a very good rifle; you chose well.  Enjoy it!

I ordered it with a full tune from mike melick at flying dragon so I'm confident it will be squared away as soon as I get it. When I talked to mike on the phone I was too excited and forgot all about barrel droop and locktite and all the other important questions I had lol. We just BSed about some new remington rifle he got from the factory in china that was like a B25 with a rekord trigger that was done in some way he wasn't happy about. That and his slow computer, he really is a super dude.

Mine is the same way.  All of the time spent dealing with the issues of scoping mine could have been much better spent elsewhere.

I went to Mike's site over a year ago planning on only buying this rifle. I've bought a qb78, qb79, b50, and a 60c from him and still don't own the 28 yet. I will get one from him soon and when I do I plan on using the utg weaver rail adapter with utg four screw rings. I put one on my rws48 and it works so well it got me back into air rifles. I fought different scopes and mounts until I gave up on shooting it for several years. The utg mount seemed like to good of a deal at the price they sell for but it has worked flawlessly. My scope hasn't moved any and everything is still tight. I saw Rick Eutsler using one on his rws350 so I assume that would work on the 28m as well.

Thanks guys. From what I've read and seen the UTG mount Is definately the way to go for this rifle, just concerned about dropping $150 or better on a scope and this gum eating it. I guess I will just go with it and see what happens but I will keep you guys posted! My girl is tired of hearing about "my BB guns"

Slow down and shoot with the open sights a bit.

Rifle came today and wow. Mike Melick is the man. She looks great and I put the first 3 shots in the same hole from about 12 yards. This thing is incredible.
