Thinking about putting a tune kit in my R9 20 Cal..
Going to do it my self.
Vortek kit
Macarri kits
and I think one from straight shooter
Read some on both of these.
Not sure if there are any others out there.
What is the best one?

I have tried a couple of Vortek kits and didn't care for the shot cycle. Too "snappy" for my taste. I use JM kits. Very smooth.

I wound up cutting 3 coils off the Vortek spring in my RWS 48. The accuracy went to h##l when I put in in and the recoil seemed to increase a lot so instead of just taking it out and stashing it in the drawer, I gave cutting the spring a try and now the gun is smooth and accurate again.
I have to find out if there was a large loss of power and I will when I get my friend's Chronograph and give it a test.

Can the R9 be converted to a gas ram and at what cost?
Would gas be better than spring?

Nope .... any spring gun that locks up using a central stem down middle of piston IS NOT ram-able :P

Oh well just a thought.

I've had the Vortek and a JM kit in my R9 and it will stay with the JM kit. Don't get me wrong the HW30S has a Vortek in it and it's perfect, I just did not like the way it felt in the R9. My R9 is running JM old school buttons and kit...it's nice.

+1
Used em both....the PG2 are too snappy upon release for my taste...
Bear In mind they are two different schools...Vortek = Horsepower..... JM factory power with smoothness and ease of cocking.
** Note *** Both kits install the same......but there is misinformation that the JM is a different beast to install.
No it isn't.....Just keep in mind the JM will not be there to answer the phone if you have a question....that's why you have us= your GTA Family.
Don't get me wrong ..there is nothing wrong with Vortek kits. They are just different.Tom makes good stuff and on several occasions has made custom kits for me and for that I'm Most grateful.
Hope this helps.
Happy Shootin to all!

Thanks for the come back.
To bad you can't use parts from both and get the perfect kit.
Now to pick one.
Thanks again

You have too assess your needs . I doubt you need more power.... If that's correct , then I believe most would recommend a kit the gives you smooth power and easy cocking.
HAppy Shootin!

I have a 98 in 177. Vortek PG2 kit with a trigger polish. I have some very accurate guns, but this one is the most accurate. Very quick shot cycle, super smooth cocking and lock up and very easy to shoot. Not pellet or hold fussy at all. I shot 10 shot string across the chrony yesterday and I am extremely happy with the numbers!
This was with JSB 8.4. Just about the same spreads with her favorite pellet, JSB 7.87, but avg 930 fps. Thrilled with this rifle!!
98 10 shot string JSB 8.4
Lo 906.6
Hi 910.5
Avg 908.4
ES 3.88
SD 1.41
Group shot at 30 yards sitting with front bag rest shooting JSB 7.87.
