Title: Great example of hold & elevation changes
Post by: mcoulter on September 24, 2013, 08:50:01 PM
I want to share a target photo with everyone.  Here I shot 3 groups of 5 shots and tried to vary my hold (loose, tight and very tight).  I have found that my RWS 34 is very hold-sensitive and this photo shows it pretty well.

The left group (POA = green dot) was shot with a fairly loose hold and impacted about 3 inches low.

The right group (POA = pink dot) was shot with a tight(er) hold and impacted about 1.5 inches low.

The center group (POA = X) was shot with a VERY tight hold and impacted about 5/8 of an inch high.

I also have to mention that center group was my last group of the day and was shot when the light was fading fast...  I had NO IDEA where the pellets were hitting.  I just tried to be consistent and keep my hold the same (very tight) for each shot.

72 yard bottlecap group:

Heck,...
I pretty impressed that you are shooting a medium powered springer at 72yds, Freehand,... and maintaining ANY sort of grouping ! ;D
 That's better than I could do !

What pellets are you using ?
If they are not match grade, sorted, etc... it would be reasonable to say there could be a couple of "flyers" in there also.
The bottlecaps better beware when you are shooting !  ;D

As they say,
 Practice make perfect.

This was definitely NOT freehand - I was shooting off some homemade bags (front and rear).
