Title: 600 sealing issue
Post by: phantomshtter on September 17, 2013, 10:41:02 PM
Had to chisel out the old seal on the face of the valve it was that hardened.  I put the fresh seal in and noticed that it seats deeper than the edge of the valve face now, the old one was flush with the valve face.  Put everything together and I get gas leaking badly out the barrel when I pierce a co2 and back it off just a tad.  I am following proper procedure by cocking the gun first as well.  So should the valve face and it's seal be flush with each other or is it ok that the seal seats 1/16" deeper?  I can't see it sealing properly as is now, I messaged the guy who sold the reseal kit and I'm expecting a refund, it clearly is not a tall enough seal.  Maybe I can shim it up to be flush with one of the tiny washers I have?

Nevermind, figured it out myself.

Glad you got it figured out but how's about sharing the answer with us so if someone like myslef were to luck into one we'll have some ideas on what to look (look out) for.
John

I'd be happy to give lots of clear details if there were any interest in the thread.  However, it's till not right.  It seals now because I placed a shim under the new valve seal to bring it up level like the original seal I dug out.  It's shooting low power now and often "double tapping", the feed arm is not always fully cycling either but that might be the ammo I'm trying to feed it.  I need to get some wadcutters but I'll do that when it's operating properly.  I also noticed that it has eaten up the new seal already for some crazy reason. ::)  This is getting ridiculous and it's about to turn into a parts gun fast.  My best advice is to not mess with the valve shaft position, I removed mine from the front valve body to install the new seal and it hasn't been right since.  If you get one that needs resealed... good luck.

I was looking back in some old posts (Why?  Because it is raining here), and saw that egillman (Erik Gillman) was working with a 600.  Maybe, if you are still having problems, he could be of help.

Hello again fellow 600 fans (or not),
I had the same problem, even with a brand new re-sealed valve stem that I bought from JG Airguns.  According to Tim at Mac1 Airguns, the lip inside the valve body that presses against the plastic/rubber seal wears down over the years.  The plastic/rubber seal is pressed into the metal collar that holds it in place, and it is the metal collar that is preventing the valve from sealing.  My "fix" was to lightly file down the metal collar while the valve stem was spinning in my drill.  It worked great after that!

Didn't work for me.  I'm no longer a fan of this gun. It shouldn't take this much run around to get this thing working.  Anyone interested in a 600 let me know, it's totally cleaned out, paint stripped, frame polished, trigger internals polished and greased, 8" crooked barn barrel and RB maple grips.  Gun has "sealing issues".

Don't give up just yet. I'm willing to help however I can.

Are you capable of taking the gun apart down to the valve body? I made my own tool to chamfer and polish the valve sealing surface and would be willing to do yours. It would only cost you a few bucks for shipping each way. I've even made my own solid delrin valve stems that work great (see pic).

The 600 is a really fun gun and a great collectors item. Definitely worth keeping IMO.
