I was fortunate to be able to get a good deal on an R1 .22 in the GTA classifieds. The previous owner correctly and accurately stated that there was "NOTHING WRONG" with the gun, it just wasn't right for him.
I had only shot one R1 before and it had been a while. I did have some idea of what to expect, but the familiarity had faded. I had forgotten the heft of this model.
First impresssions:
Visually stunning! -- I would display it on the wall as a work of art, but that would require a more fitting display than I currently own. (Even though it does not have some of the finer touches exhibited by San Rafael or Santa Rosa vintages, still a beauty.)
Mechanically sound! -- Cocking cycle, especially lock-up, is exemplary. "Smooth" is too insufficient a word to describe how flawlessly this action happens.
Sensuously tactile trigger -- OK, maybe an abuse of grammar here, and don't get the wrong idea, but the Rekord is world renowned for a reason!
Shot cycle ==>> OOPS! -- WHAT IS THAT BUZZING NOISE? -- This really disappointed me. It has been while since my ears have been so assaulted. The last time this happened was when I was shooting $100 China-mart special GAMO! My RWS 34 doesn't sound like this, why does my Cadillac of Airguns make this affront to my senses?! After a few text messages back and forth with forum member TJK, I will endure to persevere for a few tins. Apparently the previous owners of this unit had not shot it enough to allow the components of this massive power plant to break in properly.
Accuracy? -- I thought I had gone completely blind, because I know I don't miss a paper plate at 15yds with 16x magnification from a bench rest. Turns out, I put 5 through the same hole! I had to examine the target a close range to see it, but this one would ALMOST pass the Anschutz test.
Am I happy? -- ECSTATIC is more like it. Thanks again to AZ_Shooter for making this unit available at a price I could afford. Thanks to all you GTA brethren who shamelessly enable my addiction, and a special word of gratitude to TJK who turned me on to the "frauleins" in the first place.

I'm glad you like her ;D the R1/HW80 is one of my favorite rifles Thomas gave you sound advice on it ;) :P

Sorry gang, I didn't photograph the target. I'll post some pics of the rifle later.

Glad to help Sam. I knew the first time I saw you shoot my Santa Rosa R1 that it would only be a matter of time until you got one for yourself. Happy R1 shooting Bro!!!! ;) tjk

At tjk's suggestion, I "injected" a little heavy tar (using a syringe) around a few of the coils of the spring that were visible through the cocking slot. BUZZING is GONE! What a joy this thing is to shoot! I'll update the R1 Shotgun?! thread with new 70 yards bulls-eye groups tomorrow
