Title: A PCP is in my future
Post by: vanwall on September 10, 2013, 05:30:45 PM
I just got back from a visit to the local fire department.  They said they would fill tanks for me, just bring it over.  Their only concern was having the correct adapter.

Time to start researching on what to buy.  decisions, decisions.............

Not only will they fill the tanks they are only 1 block from my house.

You're lucky they are going to fill your tank. A lot of stations have stopped filling tanks because of the liability. Bringing the guys some donuts or a pizza once in a while will go far to keep you in their good graces. Have fun in your search for a PCP. I would suggest getting your hoses and adapters from Joe Brancato. His stuff is top notch.

quick ! Hide your wallet !

OOPS !,.... too late !  ;D

You might want to ask them about where they get their SCBA's serviced.
Often you can buy used tanks from the service providers to the fire departments. Then at most you'll need is a inspection and hydro test, (which is what they do) !

When you can call the service provider, and say "Hi my name is Ralph, I got your number from my friend, Fire Chief "Smith" at XXFD, ... and he said you might be able to help me out...
(You'll find they are a lot more receptive to you).

Remember,... (It's usually the Fire Chief is who chooses what service provider the Department uses)... and therefore, that provider wants to "take good care" of all Fire Chief Smith's buddies.
You might be able to swing a package deal on a big tank and a peanut tank together.

BING!!!!  You win!

For years have been telling folks to check out the fill options BEFORE they by a PCP.  You are one of the very few that actually did it.

That bodes well for your adventures into PCP.

I did myself. I talked to Joe Brancato & explained my situation. I live in a rural area & don't have any HPA filling options with in 60 miles so Joe suggested looking into using Nitrogen. I did some research & now I have a very affordable lease on a 6000 psi Nitrogen bottle. Hopefully next month I can order the regulator set up & guppy tank from Joe. Then all I have to do is wait on my .25 Condor from Tony @ talon tunes. I plan on tearing some squirrels & crows up !!!! Makes me feel like I'm 12 yrs old again..LOL!!!
