Title: XS12 Trigger Guard : Mods or replacements ideas?
Post by: jfrey on September 06, 2013, 01:31:19 PM
I just bought my second rifle a tuned XS-12 from Mike.  I really like it and my 12 year old loves it.   Wife has even shot it a few times and it makes her smile.   Mission accomplished!!!    The one thing about the rifle that bugs me however is the trigger guard.   A single piece of stamped steel with sharp edges and not a great fit to the shape of the stock.  Blueing is OK but it's clearly not up to the quality, fit and finish of the overall rifle.    I talked to Mike and he suggested a trigger guard from a B-26 but it will require some inletting (removal of wood from the stock to fit).   Before I put the stock in harms way does anyone have any other suggestions for upgrades or mods to the trigger guard?      Thx

Being a single piece of stamped metal, you may be able to bend or adjust it a bit to have it fit the stock in a more pleasing manner.

As far as the sharp edges go, try filing or sanding.

At least it's not plastic like my Nitro Venom came with.

Sometimes they can be made pretty easily. Using strips of aluminum from Lowes, I made a couple. Took some time grinding, polishing and whatnot, but the end results can be decent. The hardest part is getting the bends correct.

you know what... i got a b26 parts gun with the trigger guard... let me see how complicated it is... my gun is got already the b26 trigger unit...

By the way, do any of you XS 12 lovers have a set of iron sights that you may not be using??? or do you think MM might have a set???

Not sure if it'll fit, but I have the iron front site from an XS28 if you want it. Just PM me and I'll send it to ya.

Here is a thought on a trigger guard.  Cut a piece of plastic pipe the width of the trigger guard and cut a slit.  Heat the plastic with a heat gun to form the trigger guard shape.  May need to form sort of a wood mold to follow the shape.  Have done this on other projects but never a trigger guard. May need some sanding and painting.

I inlet the rear part into the stock, to make mine much more comfortable. I also filed all the sharp edges and re-blued, it now matches the finish on the rest of the gun.

Great suggestions.    The guard Paul68 made looks great.   but I think I'll try the file, sand re-blue approach first before I take on a larger project fabricating one from scratch.   Thanks for all the responses.
