QB 57 on the way what scope would be good?
-
Hawke Eclipse 30's are a tad over 4"
-
You didn't say how long eye relief. NC star makes a 2-7x32 "scout "scope 8-10in eye relief. Not the best quality though.
-
Sorry QB57 should be here in a couple weeks, thanks for your imput.

What distance are you looking at for your eye relief?
-
I'm using a Tasco Bantam 2.5 x 20 shotgun scope. With the scope mounted as far back as I can get it, the eye relief is good. The low power eliminates the need for an AO.
-
considering it is a bull pup design means that you do not need a long eye relief, as the scope is not that far from your eye. i would get a compact scope (bug buster???) and adjust on the rail... If you get a long eye relief you migh need off st mounts going forwards to place it at the correct focal distance. i used a 4x32. then moved to a red dot. Keep it as a short range blaster.
-
Red dot sounds cool, got a pic?

This is my setup, I couldn't find a long eye relief w A/O so I picked up an off set mount with a Barska 4x32 A/O. I changed the original scope rail for an NCstar 10/22 combination and I think that's a Tuffforce offset mount.
I had tried a pistol scope with 8.5" eye relief but it was too much and no A/O which all my scope now have.

I use a red dot on all my trainer/starter rifles.
The dot on my Tasco is fine for plinking and the stuff that I do, but that dot is pretty big for precision shooting.
I cannot remember the size of the dot 5 or 8 moa.
And you have ZERO magnification for small targets.
Which is of no help to those of us with middle-age eyes.
So I just shoot larger targets that I can see without magnification.
-
Garth, how did you do the barrel, is that a shroud? Tell me about the stock.
Duck
-
It sort of is a shroud, the stock I carved from laminated baltic Birch plywood and then painted with bed liner spray and krylon paint. This is before I got the off set scope mount.

really nice qb57... makes me miss mine. Those weird older chinese sidelevers... gotta love them! I have been tempted to order the new one that Archer has... but this time in .22.
-
that would be :-X
No namesake to be used on the GTA ... even cleverly coded.
-
Arrived yesterday, seems to be in good condition, I will shoot it this Monday and we will see.

If a guy could get a good 3moa unit, that had good control of intensity, I'd be all over it. I bought 1 cheap one, and 1 very expensive one. They are what they are. I kept the cheap one for my turkey gun. Lowest level it's okay for a shotgun.

I've got two QB57's. The newer one from parts for the older one's spare .22 barrel and lock tight the barrels on both. I've got a TruGlo dot sight on the .22, works great. On the .177 I replaced the 11mm rail with weavers. It took a 2" and 41/2" to get the right length. Rail extends an inch beyond the top of the wood forpiece, the scope a 1/2" more. The scope is a BSA Edge 2x20 pistol scope with an advertised 8"-14" eye relief. Mines at 11", Works great. I used 1" tall see thru mounts, replaced the useless front sight with a nail, zeroed the nail with a couple of snips with wire cutters and painted the nail red. Scope and nail hit targets just fine.
-
Hey left eye, the true glow red dot hooked up ok? The rail was the right size?
How about you liliesdad what red dot did you use and did it hook up ok?
Duckfish
-
yeah... no prob. average walmart dovetail mount. i used the crosman red dot (1 inch tube...) mine has a neat little dot on 2 or 3 intensity.
-
How do I get the front sight off I read somewhere you can heat it up with a hair dryer?
-
Duck fish, I used an 11mm to weaver adapter, TruGlo works great on dimmest dot setting so small targets aren't hidden by the dot. If you're talking about the actual small front sight blade, it screws out.
A little oil to loosen it. If you raise a front sight it lowers the strike of the round. With both my 57's the sight post was about to fall out and still hitting high. That's why I replaced one with a longer nail. Then it hit low, snipped a very small piece off the top twice, elevation was on but hit a little right with rear sight all the way left. Bent nail a hair right, hit a little left, moved rear sight 4 clicks right. Next two pellets were center of the bullseye 1/8" apart. Shot from 20meters off a bench rest. Peak wadcutters.
-
If you want to remove the plastic muzzle break so that it can be reused then I use a hair dryer and it took about 15 minutes to get it to the point I could easily turn it then I used a block of wood that I had made a slot in to just fit over the barrel and used a hammer to knock it off. You will need to reheat to reinstall. I've done this to both my 57s several times and its no worse for the wear.
