Title: Illinois Air Rifle Hunters
Post by: DomDaBears on December 01, 2010, 01:34:28 PM
Hello. I was wondering where in Illinois are you allowed to go hunting with your Air Rifle, and what are you able to hunt.
I'm new to this, so I have no idea.
I tried looking at the state's hunting website, but it don't talk about air gun hunting.

Thanks

I would recommend you directly call one of their offices.
Bound to be someone there to answer all your questions.
I would recommend making up a note pad of all the questions you might need to get answers for before you place the call.

I don't know your state reg's offhand but you might want to contact any Phone numbers listed on your states hunting website and talk to them. Also if your allowed to hunt with airguns there check into the counties etc. that you can hunt in some area's may have local law's against discharging any kind of shooter including airguns. Ed

Thanks guys. I might have to do that, since there's really no guidelines on Air Rifle hunting here (none that I've found).

Dom,

I too am from Illinois. The northern suburbs of Chicago and I have no local ordinances that I know of prohibiting the use of airguns.  Now I am very good friends with the commander of the police department so that doesn't hurt if something ever were to happen lol.  I would recommend calling as well because the website isn't very helpful in my opinion.  I do know that you can pretty much hunt your own land and private property with permission from the owner as long as it is legal to discharge an air rifle in the county or city that the property is in.  Let us know what you find out.  I really don't do much hunting outside of my back yard but I would still like to know for future reference.

Good Luck and Go Bears!

Thanks man. Yeah I'm in the burbs of Chicago too. I'm in Elgin. I knew we could hunt on our own property, but I'm wanting to go out in the woods. I'll make some calls and ask some of the guys at my work if they know where I can go and what I can shoot. I work at Cablea's, so I'm sure someone there knows something about Air gun hunting.

I'm in Mundelein. Sadly no woods around me. I'm up at Cabelas all the time. Some of the guys aren't very knowledgable about airguns but do know hunting regs and things pertaining to powder burners pretty well. I could get lost for days in that place. Like I said let us or just me lol know what you find out.

Crystal Lake here.  I agree, dnr's site is clear as mud.

Is it just me or did Cabelas shut down the upstairs on all their stores?

I know they did on the one by us but I never got a reason why. Maybe Dom could help us out with that

They shut it down because of the economy. I get that question everyday I'm there. Everything is downstairs now. A lot of people are upset over it. I guess their saving over 80,000 dollars in taxes on not having the upstairs as retail space.

Side note, I used to work for the co. that did the parking lot at the  Hoffman Estates store.
