Title: XM-25
Post by: a1Bogey on December 01, 2010, 01:23:33 PM
No , not a new airgun.   It is the Army's newest grenade launcher.   Newfangled and costly.   $25,000 to $30,000 each.   Fires a microchipped round upto 700 meters.   Now if the gun costs 25k to 30k,  what do the rounds cost each.   Bet they aren't cheap.  Hope they function in all types of conditions.

So...why would you put a microchip in something you fully expect to blow up?

the microchip is programmed befor the shooter shoots it
he can program it to detonate at any given range
say he is shooting it through a window the window is at 500 meters he can program it to go off at 501 meters as it passes through the window to detonate IN the room rather than when it impacts the wall
very swwet setup for the solders i think but at $30000 a piece   DANG

My Nephew's unit in Afgan has been using them for about 6-8 months. He says that they are the "Bomb". A one man "mortar & rocket" team. And it weighs 25lbs. Shoots any type round;HE, AP, WP, etc...

Amazing that all this technology allows so much stuff to get smaller and smaller, but the cost gets pretty hefty. Maybe it'll come down when they come out with the next model! :D
