Title: Free target idea within
Post by: phantomshtter on August 13, 2013, 11:58:19 PM
I'd love to see some out of the norm ideas from everyone, we know the usual ones so whip out your imagination!

These are very reactive sometimes and utilize a natural backstop as well.  The bark on many trees will afford you a natural hook for the cap to hang on.  When I was a teen we had a "drinkin tree" in the woods that was 100% bottle caps 7 feet up the tree.  We would put the cap on the bark and hit it with our fist driving it into the bark.  I have an experimental idea of my own that I may add to the thread for y'all. ;)

Just think of all the fun you'll have getting the targets to put on the trees.   ;D ;D

I'm fully stocked already.  Most impressive part is there's no beer gut to show for it! 8)

Mine starts off like this. Once they are all broken, I use the pieces from the ground and keep shooting them until they are dime size. I use big block of 8"x10" wood and some solid maple posts from a handrail that a homeowner did not like in their home.

My little girl and I shot at saw blades....works nice if you can get through the hole.

I use natural  reactive targets---nutters, HOSP, yellow-beaks...I believe in using what nature provides us...lol.

Being in nor Cal the ground is pretty dry most the time and if you make it through the hole dust poofs up. At the range you can move it as far as you think you can get through the hole. Not as cool as a knock down but cheaper.

Frank!!! ~

Just saw this from you:

The ol' time standards:
Aspirin
Necco wafers
Animal crackers

match heads

Tacks

buttons

etc.

My Introduction to Air Guns

Years ago down in good ol' Texas I bought a house.  It had been vacant
for about four months before closing on it.  The backyard was solidly fenced
all around.

So I go to the title company, sign all the papers, get the key, head over to my
new abode.  Unlock the front door and with a big smile on my ugly face stroll
through the house feeling the pride of home ownership.

Enter the lovely kitchen, walk over to the back door and open it to gaze at my
new back yard.

EDITED for nonproductive & highly controversial content.

Same thing here in California.
Now we are over run with turkies (Goblers, not qualified politicians)
I think the critters kept the turkey population in check.
Now they are everywhere except in my back yard.
I be waiting, though.  ;)

Well, Chaffyn and me have been formally chastised for talking about shooting cats. From now on when I say I am shooting cans, you can assume I didn't use my spellchecker correctly.

Shooting of domesticated animals and possibly someone's pet is a very controversial topic we prefer stayed off of GTA. We ask that you respect that. There are animal control officers for just this purpose. And I would suspect that you would need a permit to conduct such eradication on your own. It's best to just NOT bring this subject to GTA. There are PLENTY of other more acceptable targets to stimulate the imagination as the OP requested.
Personally, I like cheese balls or paintballs on golf tees. I use a backstop covered in white shipping paper for instant visual gratification. :)
Of course animal crackers and Dum Dum pops make great reactive targets too. I also have 1/4" wooden dowels about 4' long that I push a foam practice golf ball onto and set out at ranges from 25-60 yards. Those work well for dialing in a scope or creating a range card.
SAFE & Happy Shooting!!!!
