Title: New Slavia 634 imports
Post by: RedFeather on August 05, 2013, 08:07:52 PM
Anyone tried the current batch of synthetic stocked 634's being imported to the US? I know that first wood stocked guns were well regarded.  Especially if they are like my 631 Lux.

I liked the first one I bought, the barrel worked great with JSB 7.33's, actually their AA Falcon rebrands.  I had a lady friend I had given a Titan to but it was just a bit more than she could handle.  I let her try the CZ and its just right for her soo...   gave it to her.  Ordered a second one and the first barrel isn't a fluke the second one is just as good.

The stock is quite nice and has the flat forearm mimicking the wood Slavias and 200's.  The dovetails are normal 11mm - 3/8" though I used an offset mount and some older bug buster 6x scopes to place the eye relief where I wanted it.  The trigger is a bit scratchy but breaks cleanly so it works fine out of the box with a little concentration.  I think for $200 they are nothing to be embarrassed about the blueing is just ok but the cocking linkage is machined solid (not sheet metal), so they spent the money in the right places.  Oh and I did not care for the rear sight at all, the front globe post was fine but the rear notch was no good for me.

The plastic stock's inserts are softer "grippy" and with red being my favourite colour it kinda grew on me.

I ran the first one across the chrony with my usual 7.9g CP's it was fresh with maybe 100 pellets through.  It had a high of 751 and a low of 737, average was 743.  A touch under 10 Ftlbs,  My chrony went on the blink again and have not tested my second one.

Here is the web site view, several pawn & gun shops list them online.  I bought the two from different vendors but they both shipped from Louisiana so I suspect they are from the same pool and simply drop shipped.  The CZ-USA is etched on the receiver tube while the rest of the markings are stamped or rolled on.  Aside from a couple parts CZ USA doesn't seem to recognize the 200 or 634 at all.

How are the triggers on these??

The two I have bought had a scratchy pull and a nice clean break.  I have never found anything poking around the internet that makes the Slavia trigger a great trigger, just some mods to improve them.

Build quality??

Not a looker, think industrial soviet, much like Baikal.  However the materials and barrels are great on my two.  The barrels on my two CZ 200's and .17 HMR made me want to try the Slavia I either got lucky or they are better than average.  I don't think Cricket made a mistake using CZ barrels.

What about the new front sights on Syn models ?

A post in a globe,  I could focus on it no problem.  The rear is a below average notch and vertical adjustment was poor IMHO.  I would change both and go peep rather than try and use them as the back was useless for me to get a read on it.  The 634's both had a normal scope dovetail width, I understand the 631's are extra wide.  The dovetail stops well short of the end, its been awhile since I mounted the scopes but I think I used .01 - .02 of shims on both for some barrel droop (not as bad as Diana).

I have a Mendoza Peep I could install as well as a Hawke 2-7 x 32.

Whats the front sight look like???

A globe with a post, its not interchangeable aperture.

Do you have the wood stock or Syn??  The wood version is now $72 upcharge.  Do the Syn stock hold up on them or do they crack?

Synthetic, its wall thickness is better than most I have seen.  Its light cocking pressure should ensure its fine, I would be surprised if it would cause Hatsan like problems at the wrist break.

It is my luck with my CZ S200 that have me thinking of getting one for a plinker

Yes same reason I bought one though I have never been keen on plastic stocks.  This one has grown on me, and its easy to spot in the rack.  :o

This is it next to a Diana 46

Thanks

Was gonna go blue and black.....BUT just ordered the red and black to match the CZ S200

I looked on CZ site in Europe it mentions something about new fiber sights so the front sight will be a surprize as I do not know when the rifles available here were produced.

Whats your power doing with a 7.9 gr ??

It does have a little fiber line, it looks like a retrofit to the original hardly noticeable to use.  So far the only fiber optic sights I have liked are on the B12, they for some reason just work for me most others I find kinda irritating or just plain to large for precision.

As far as power my first one shot 748 average with 7.9g, though this model is up in power over the 631 its a gentle well balanced shooter.  Just like the S200 its not supposed to be hammer, its retro pre 1,000 fps required on the box to sell.

I don't want anyone thinking its an HW30s, the trigger is by no means as good as the Rekord or the S200 for that matter.  It is usable on the two I have though out of the box, with concentration.  If it just had a run of the mill barrel I would say its not worth looking at beyond $125.  However you have to get "dang" lucky with a Chinese gun to get anything like these barrels.

One other thing, it did ok with CP 7.9's but it shines with JSB 7.33 and at Pyramyd the AA Falcon 7.33 JSB's are a bargain @ $10 a tin.

Full disclosure, I have a 631 wood on the way from an auction, its just a hobby right guys? right?

spec sheet on CZ says adjustable pull 10-20 N so min about 2.?? lbs dont sound bad

Its not heavy, and I did lighten it a bit with the screw its the scratchy drags that makes it a bit tough.  The price at Bud's, I would be going for an HW30s for less than $100 difference.   Mind the CZ is a full size stock and 2 or 3 more ft lbs but thats getting up there in price.

according to owners manual trigger is adjustable from 3-10 n so down to a touch over 1/2lb. from what ive read this may require removal of the trigger adjustment spring.

Those test targets are for functionality not to test accuracy, imagine the line worker running gun after gun through.  They don't have a team of Olympians at the end of assembly line  ::).   The other factor is scale, the black is about the size of a penny.
