Got another R1 today, this one a R1 Laser.20. Bought this one from the same man I bought my first R1 .20 from back in may. This gun looks like it just came from the factory it's that nice. The guy was telling me about the parts that went into making the gun a Laser. He told me that he did not think with this Laser kit that they lubed the mainspring because it had a twang when new and still does. Said he only shot about 600 pellets thru it and that it was not shot in the last 10 years. Shot this rifle about 60 - 75 times this evening and it sure does twang louder than any spring rifle I have. Can anyone tell me about this Laserization and why Beeman did it? Also can I put spring tar on this spring? I bought this thinking I will put a .22 barrel on it, so where might one buy a replacement barrel?

Some info here. Personally I would keep the .20 cal, but that's just me.

Congrat's on the new shooter! ;D I think the R1 in .20 is just about the perfect springer. I don't see why you couldn't tar the spring, unless the Laserization would somehow interfere with doing that. ??? I agree with Nathan on keeping it a .20, but like he said, that's just me. ;) Good luck!

Yes, it is a factory installed Laser kit. The rifle has a small emblem inlayed on the left side of the stock with Beeman Laser Airgun printed on it. The person I bought this gun from gave me a old Beeman catalog that I finally looked at. These Laser Beeman's had some factory tuning done. Catalog says chamfer the transfer port, hone and polish compression chamber and trigger. They also use a electroless nickel plated piston, mainspring, front and rear spring guides hand fitted, and a few other things done to it. I took the action out of the stock and there is a copper colored lube used. Never took a Beeman apart, only my Diana's, so i'll have find instructions on how and then clean it up. I'll just use moly and tar and see what happens.
