Title: Junkers
Post by: AHCampbell on August 01, 2013, 07:11:26 PM
So, if anyone's got any old junked parts or guns, I'll pay you for them.  I've only got $40, so offer quick.  I'm looking for the big stuff for now.   Barrels, bodies, grips, springs, pretty much anything you've got from an airgun.  I'd buy whole guns too, but there aren't many worth only $40.  Still, message.  I pay C.O.D, or electronic gift card.  No, i don't have a paypall account.  I'm only 18, jobless for now.

Basically, I want to really get into modding, so I need lots of spare parts.  Anything you can offer.  Free is good too;D.

why don't you look up hunters lodge and see if they still have any romainin pioneer training rifles. I have 2 and I bought a bunch and fixed them up and gave all but 2 to my neighbors kids 2 years ago when he lost his job at thanksgiving. they are a neat little low powered gun and different too but shoot good for the money . you will have to call them as they don't show them in their web site , but id bet they have some. they might even make a deal on more than 2 guns . just a suggestion for a cheep way into air guns

I really don't understand the fad I see of destroying perfectly good shooting guns.  That's exactly what it is to, I see it in the PB community as well.  As if the 100's of thousands of dollars in R&D from the manufacturers didn't turn out the best quality product for the money already.  It's a silly silly notion to think that the average Joe with no fabrication skills can somehow "make it better" with a roll of duct tape and a dream.  Please correct me if I'm out of place or insulting but I know I'm telling the truth.  Just buy what you want in the first place and shoot the *(&^ out of it.  Get bored?  Sell it and buy something different.  Done deal.

I dunno.  I'm obsessed with making it "mine".  Like, something unique, you know?  As for the destroying, well, you may be destroying one thing, but you're creating something new.  Just my opinion.

well there's a fine line between tuning and butchery that can easily and unknowingly be crossed
and it seems that with AGs it's more of a sharp edge than a line of any width.. get to close and
you're bleeding all over the place.

if you want to see butchery become a motorcycle mechanic.. WOOF! have I seen things that would amaze Rube Goldberg
and other things that would give a 300 pound female of alternate life style choices a strong run for being Butch(ered)!

but the big thing here is the "for the money" the idea is to get more value and satisfaction by doing it with your own nature
derived food gathering implements. my Wally World Benji Titan GP NP could benefit from a decent deburr, reseal, lube and
bore polishing...I could pay a tuner $100+ to so such a thing if one would even do it given the value of the gun before and
after the work versus the value of the work it self. OR I can slowly carefully and patiently do it myself, with the added thrill
of "I really hope I don't screw this up!"

BUT as a reply to the OP, do a search on the P17 pistol...$40 new...yeah it;s pistol BUT make a shoulder stock
invest $20 in a 16" barrel...one piece at time...some of the modded guns are AMAZING

I'm having hard time deciding between the p17 as a second AG (oops did I just develop an addiction?)
or a better scope for my Titan for twice as much. so far I have managed to hold out for the scope..

I would have agreed with you until I started Cowboy Action shooting.  Things have improved greatly but there was a time when a new lever action gun might not work right out of the box.  (Rossi model 92's being the biggest offender)  Reading here it seems the thought process is the same as it was back then.  Clean, adjust, deburr and properly lubricate for smooth function and longer life.

All the above being said Mike at Flying Dragon did my XS28M at the time of purchase because I figured I would screw it up the first time.   :-[

I have done the reassembly on Model 92's and clones because someone could not put it back together so do understand what you are saying.

I was looking at a couple guns.  However, I was gonna go for parts if any were available, as my supply is limited.  And yes, I know about the line.  I'm probably gonna cros it, trip over it, and have it hit me in the face.  But it's all part of the learning experience.

I did the same thing when I was learning on the powder burners.  We could not buy parts back then so the only place for spares were other guns we bought cheap.

Thanks.  Gotta learn somehow.  Everyone's new at some point, after all.

Guys tuning is a completely different thing than what I am talking about.

AHC it sounds like you want to tune a gun you already have. If you just get a bunch of parts you may buy alot of parts that won't fit your gun. Instead ask for parts for your gun. Just a thought, might get more good parts for less money. My .02  Larry

You know, that might honestly be a better idea.  I probably should just ask for parts as I need them, or for specific models.

Yes, you want parts you can use.  Simply trying to make a gun out of random parts won't work.  Parts are usually specific to each gun.  Try CraigsList.  I see guns come up that are complete and cheap.  Someone buys Jr an airgun and the old lady says no, people buy a gun and don't like it, especially springers, etc.  Are you looking to build or shoot?  If shoot, buy a working gun and get to know it.  You can do a simple tune later.

Honestly, I posted this not 100% sure what I was looking for.  It would be nice to have something working.  At the same time, always wanted to take stuff apart.  But I might break it.  But it would be a good learning experience.  But this, but that.  So many things were going through my head.

Unless you know what you're doing, it's a recipe for disappointment, or even disaster, by trying to build something from nothing.  Crosman builds them cheap enough, and they work outta the box.  Then you can tear into it and study how it's done.

I didn't butcher em cause I wanted to I wanted to do a tune and heck I just couldn't put em back together lost springs and roller pins I just plain hate messing with airguns the only successful one I was able to complete was nodding my 1377. If anyone here could out my qb89 back together for me I'd appreciate it.

Could always part it out, that's always an option for you.  May even make more than it's worth that way.  Just an option.

Send it up to Flying Dragons Airguns.  He'll take care of it.
