Well, I have had the Evanix WCII in 9mm for quite a while now and I want something different...
I am wanting something with a little more long distance capability, More energy, and most importantly, still able to fill it with a hand pump if the need be.
Primary use will be hunting medium size game, such as coyote or deer. (Michigan)
What are your opinions on this gun? How do you think it will compare to the Extreme .308, or other similar .308 airguns. Or would you go with something in .45. I'm just looking for some honest input.
-
XP right now are the Pinnacle of Big Bore airguns,...I would go .452
-
Why not an extreme big bore. They are made right here in Michigan and are excellet guns. My .308 has taken deer and fox with no problems.
-
Extreme Bigbores are made not too far north of you just east of Frankenmuth. Why not call them and make a trip to check them out. I did last December and came home with a .457 and love it. I cannot imagine ever attempting to keep this gun happy with a hand pump however as big bores have a very healthy appetite for air.
-
I did not say I wouldn't consider an Extreme, but it looks like xp has better performing rifles.
Do you guys think .45 would be a better long range caliber? I'd like 1 inch or less group's at 50 yards, and would be shooting at 100 or more yards regularly.
-
Cneck out Charlie "unrepentedsinner" threads on the Yellow, he shooys the XP .452 regularly at 150 yards

Big L. You are always welcome to come to our shop and shoot our guns, if you want to call Brent at 989-660-0278 he can answer any questions you may have...kind regards, Allen A.

I will put my Extreme gun up against an XP any day of the week. 50 yards is not long distance, at least not to me. My .308 can shoot under and inch at 100 yards and I still have not tried it at 150 and beyond yet..
Just curious where you heard XP are better performing guns at ? Both these companies make very good guns. Biggest problem with XP is getting one. Be prepared to wait a very long time.
Any of the big bore gun makers guns should shoot 1" at 50 yards in any caliber.

Allan,
Thanks for the reply, I looked at your website and the information about the guns is vague. If possible do you think you could send me some info on your .45 rifle?
What I would really like is too be able to get 2 Solid shots with the 36 inch, at +/- 350 ft lbs in .45, from a 3300psi fill. This is because I do not want to invest in a 4500 psi tank and shoebox setup at this point in time.
If this can be achieved by the Extreme I would be Highly interested in getting one.
-
I can get close to 450 fpe with my .457 Extreme at 3100 psi fill and about 400 fpe on the second shot using a #2894 Century spring in it with a 350 grain bullet. Getting 350 + or - is not a problem at all with this gun at that fill.....but verify this with Al or Brent. Just my experience. These guns are literal air cannons.
-
me too hve the 45 also its a best good luck waiting for an xp
-
Ive been on the list for a xp Ranger for over a year now with no sight of it being in near future so good luck.Extreme 308 may be what you want from what Ive read.Seen some awesome numbers out of those with with the 308's.I have a 457 Extreme that is a awesome gun.Got 600 fpe with a 500 gr bullet a week or two ago.If I want long range...some times I load a 200 gr round that I'm getting around 1000 fps with.Very accurate too.I shoot 1 hole groups at 50 yards all the time.Brent and Allen are really easy to work with too...very friendly and dedicated to their trade.Plus the extreme has a life time warranty.
-
Checked the fps on my Extreme this morn to see what she gets at 3300 psi.I used a 265 gr round and got 816 fps on first shot and 753 fps on 2nd.So thats 380 fpe and a 348 fpe.fits the bill you wanted.I have a 27 inch barrel too so if you go 30-32 inch you will prob be in the 400 fpe range
-
753 fps w/ 265 gr. = 334 FPE.... big difference first to second shot....
Bob
-
yes bob is correct they really aren't made to shoot a lot of shots , I can get 4 good ones out of mine its the first shot that should count tho for what I use it for
-
If I remember your in Michigan. I'm sure you know I am too. If you want your more then welcome to try out my gun any time you like. Just let me know and we can meet up at Jim's place.

Thanks for the offer Grumpy, but I decided that I'll give Brent or Allen a call this weekend and ask if I might be able to visit there shop, and possibly get a gun on order.
-
Just out of curiosity does anybody own one in .40, i cant find anything on them.
-
Theres a few post on network 54 about the 40 cal.I believe they were getting around 900-950 with a 220 gr maybe?Only bad thing about the 40 (which I believe is a 409 or 410 dia) is bullet selection.check that site though
-
I was also considering the .40 cal but bullet choice played a big part. theres many great molds avail for the .308 if you cast and if not there is still many bullet choices available from around the net. Sorry I cannot recall what the power levels were. I am sure Brett or Allan can help.

Mr Hollow Point, Hunters Supply, and have them sized to .408, they have soft and medium lead...kind regards...Allen.
PS...you will love this gun.
-
Not knocking any of those bullets Allen but they can get pricey in a hurry. Sure there are .40 molds out there for us casters but .308 offers so many more choices. For someone like me who can burn through ammo like crazy the .308 just made much more sense.

Allen A,
Could you build one of your .40 cal. air rifles using a .400" barrel so that any of the commonly available 40 S&W cast bullets could be used? 40 S&W cast bullets usually range from about 150 grs. to about 220 grs. and bullet casting companies usually sell them at .401". This sounds about perfect for air rifle power. There's also a huge selection of cast moulds available for 40 cal. pistol bullets.

I agree. The .401 would be a better fit for the air rifle .Maybe even a 44 cal (.429)Molds and lead rounds are abundent in those cal.I shoot my .457 weekly so if I was paying Retail on bullets instead of casting my self,Id go broke. ;)I have been playing with sabot rounds over the past week in .38 and to my supprise they are working pretty well.At 4000 psi i got a avrg. of 1050 fps with a 125 gr.I think Im going to try the 40 cal sabot next in the 457 and see how accuracy holds up.Note I said "Playing",When crunch time comes I'll have a nice heavy lead .457 in the barrel come deer season but the sabots may be a better fit for game on the smaller end of the scale.Turkey,coyotes,ect.
-
Well, i went with an Extreme in .40, should arrive just in time for early doe season.
-
I think the 40 will be a awesome deer gun.I was originally gonna go with the 40 but because I have a 909 I had plenty of molds that would cast to 457 so it was the sensible choice for me.I love the 457 now though.powerful gun,and accurate! You wont have a problem with killing deer though.Ive been shooting some 40 cal sabots....the 180 gr speer gold dots and they are lethal.(I think the lead will do better just dont have any on hand).Done some wet book tests with them and the wound channel is really good. They mushroom out to .66 or so.You'll have a lot of fun with it.congrates
-
think your gonna really like it. Congrats.
-
yeah congrats ill be in a wheelchair before I get mine
-
The bullets I ordered from Mr. Hollowpoint have arrived!!! Gettin' giddy.
