Title: Testing the Skenco"Ultra Shock" .22
Post by: Nomadic Pirate on July 17, 2010, 08:45:55 PM
At first it wasn't shooting all that good out of my Rainstorm, untill I filled the cavity with superglue, now it's a one hole pellet.

the test with game has even being better, so far 100 % success with over 1/2 dozen Mynah birds instant kills with body shots, and 5 wild roosters one shot kills at the base of the neck

Nice shooting and pics!!  Are you in South America?

You can tell us a little about the gun, like where it's made, velocity, etc.  It looks like the barrel comes shrouded.

Thanks,

the gun is an Evanix Rainstorm, shoots the 28gr EunJin at 900 fps about 50 FPE

this powerfull .22 is devastaing with the Ultra Shocks

Thanks, the Rainstorm looks very nice!

My Condor .22 likes the 28.4 EunJin's too.  Excellent hunting pellet.  They almost go supersonic at full power in my Condor :)  What are ultra shock pellets? from JSB?  First time I hear about them.

Not sure but they surely looks like they are made like the JSBs, lead, color, texture, even down to the thin skirts

Good shooting and super pic's and I've seen your hunting handy work before, dropping pork and feather and if memory serves me right your on the Island's of Hawaii. I know they have a bunch of wild yard bird's running around over there. Ed

Does the tin say "made in Czech Republic", or "Joseph Schulz Bohumin"?  Then they are made by JSB.  What do they weigh?

Post by: Nomadic Pirate on July 17, 2010, 10:02:16 PM
yes, made in the Czech republic, they weight 25.4gr, probably over 26gr once the cavity is filled with glue  ;D

JSB makes a .22 and a .25 pellet in 25.4gr, so most likely they are JSB, unless another company is copying them.  Do you think the glue in the cavity might mess up its aerodynamics and flight characteristics?

Wow, I see you own not 1, but 2 DAQ's.  Have you hunted pigs with them?  I have talked to Dennis about getting a .458 or .50cal Outlaw (long wait!), but in my state we are not allowed to hunt deer or bear with airguns, only powder burners.  I wish we had wild pigs here.  There have been a few sightings of Mountain Lion (supposedly) in my town and neighboring ones, so I suppose I could find an excuse to get a DAQ, but I 'd rather shoot a lion with one my 30-30's or 7mm Mag.  That is if I can arm myself when I see it and before it sees me :)

I've being experimenting with filling the cavitys of some of my big bores slugs and so far I only experianced improved flight, same with this pelled, drammatic improvement !!

I'll post some pictures of my recent hunts with my big bores  ;D ;D

N Pirate how does the glue effect expansion for the hollow points?
Title: Re: Testing the Skenco"Ultra Shock" .22
Post by: Nomadic Pirate on August 22, 2010, 03:27:14 PM
The hollowpoint in this pellets is really negigable, they don't really expand either with or without the glue, the do a lot of damage because of the flat head, they really hit hard, but not even close in accuracy to the EunJin, Barracuda or JSB

I give all my game the 48 hours soaking in iced water and vinegar treatment, does wonders to any meat from an old big boar down to a dove :)

So, the Skencos aren't the best pellets for target, but they have performed exceptionally well in the field, never missed a shot, and the game just piles up on the spot, I'm allmost out of them but I will for sure order several more tins the next time I put an order thru Pyramyd,..this is a killer pellet

I've being rutinely taking down Mynah birds up to 50 yards, and it's just devastating on them little birds

Nice job wasting those invasive mongoose.
They are incredibly destructive to the fragile native species over in HI.
Good job!

Manny, you sure find lots of game to hunt. I used to go to a friends farm in Waimanalo to shoot mongoose, bulbuls and mynah birds but he lost the lease on his land so now I'm anxious to find new hunting grounds. I suppose I have to drive up to the North Shore to find secluded areas. Got any ideas?

East side and West side probably much better, the North Shore is horrible, unless you know someone or have keys/combinations, there's really nowhere to go, everything is blocked, pretty sad up here if you like to just get into the woods  :(

I used to have access to the gates when I worked at the fire station at Schofield. Our brush trucks had keys and combinations in them. I should have made copies before I got transfered to a different fire station:)

I may just venture out into the woods and bait some mongoose.

Got a freezer full of salmon from my trip to Alaska. I'll save some of the skins for bait. Thanks for the tip.

..And tie them up to a tree, otherwise them buggers will take them away before you can shoot  ;D ;D ;D

Put them up, than come back in a couple of days and tie up some more and sit on them, it takes them a couple of days to get confident to come in and grind  ;D ;D ;D
