I have always favored break-barrels. I enjoyed my HW97K underlever for the time that I had it. It was about my fifth HW97K. And oh, but that thing was accurate. I used 8.4 Exacts in it.
But I have just finished tuning my new HW98 and that baby is just as accurate. Well, from my FT shooting positions. And it easily passes the "pellet on the turret" test. Repeatedly.
A .125 wired spring. A tight delrin rear guide and tophat. And thanks to my buddy Ed C., I have started using only Ultimox in the rifle for all lubing. There has been absolutely NO smell of diesel smoke. Good tight Extreme Spreads. Time will tell whether it degrades or not, but so far, it has really smoothed this little (but heavy...comparatively to an HW95K) rifle up. I mounted a 6x24x40mm Bushnell Elite scope on it and look forward to some matches at Roz's Holler. These are fine little rifles!!!! Thanks for reading.

Those are some of the sweetest little rifles, Kevin. 8)
Always wanted one myself and maybe someday I'll have the pleasure of owning one.
Please post some pics, we'd love to see it!
Some people here might even say pics or it didn't happen. ::)
-
Hey Kev!! I have one arriving tomorrow......not excited at all.....only tracked it 52 times today!!!
Also.....pics or we really don't believe you.....especially Niko!!!
Enjoy it!!!!!
-
Are the HW98 and HW95 actions the same, just a different stock? I'm starting to get an itch for a .177 Weihrauch similar to my D34 .22.
-
I do know the 98 is the R9 action in a prettier dress Mark.
-
Can't believe I'm the first to post this!!
PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN ;D
-
Oh no Mike!!! No one gets away overlooking our need for air gun porn!!! I requested it already!!!!
-
Ahem....I already insinuated pics or it didn't happen. ::)
Hehe ;D
Joe, the R11 (HW98) also sports the barrel shroud as well as the adjustable stock.
Have you been shooting yours yet? Awesome gun!
-
I'm sitting at the window with my face plastered up against it waiting for Mr Fed Ex!!! Very patiently.....NOT
-
Joe, you are the least patient person I've ever known!!
Besides me ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
I don't remember Christmas being this bad!!!
-
I know the feeling!!!
It's called torture.

Well.....the action is similar, however the HW98 has shrouded barrel and target style adjustable stock as shown here......

My latest Beeman R9 is a rebadged HW95 with different trim, no iron sites, but includes a set of two piece scope rings and muzzle break like this.....

The HW95 includes iron sites but no scope rings or muzzle break and shorter plainer stock like this..........

Sooo... let me ask the question again because I am REALLY curious. Does any body know if the only differences are the barrel shroud and stock between a HW 95 and the HW 98? Are the trigger unit, volume of compression chamber and barrel length the same? Would it work as accurately and just be a fit-to-the-shooter difference?
-
It's all the same. The Rekord trigger is the same unit in both models, compression tube is the same.
-
Pretty dang sure the 95/98/R9 are the SAME mechanics. Standard HW Rekord trigger blocks in all.
Main tube/Piston uses same seal sets and springs BOMK.
The 98 is NOT shrouded, but is a steel sleeve over the barrel adding muzzle end weight and rigidity only. There is no air space, baffles or anything shroud about it.
-
Thanks Guys, I appreciate that information on the HW 98vHW95. 8)
-
"The 98 is NOT shrouded"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oooopppsssss.....bad choice of wording......should have written "sleeved"! Thanks for the correction!
Matter of fact, a new HW98 barrel can be bought from this source for under $100
I have contemplated buying one for my R9 but I don't know if I would like the extra weight of the SLEEVE........sure LOOKS nice though! :)
-
It is blued beautifully Ed!! Just got my 98 yesterday. Tried to get a decent shot of the barrel for you.
-
Been watching this thread. Very beautiful gun, Kevin. I am sure you massaged it perfectly.
-
Another find gun hits the raod running. congrates!!
-
Congratulations on the new HW98, Kevin. I have admired them several times. Keep us posted on how she does. Great looking rifle!
morning
don't really know how I came across HW98, but , now I have to have one ...lol ummmm where do I start. I just bought a RWS34, about 2 wks. ago and i'm having a blast with it , got about 1100 down the tube with just iron sites. actually i'm pretty impressed with it , and I didn't scope it yet , but soon.
so for my 2nd. AR it's going to be a HW98 , that's for sure , been doing boo-koo reading and the only thing i'm not sure about yet is, do I get it in .22 or .177.... :-\ I know I won't be doing any shooting of larger game with it soooooo...lol... any really good reasons to get in .22 ?
ok enablers..... ;D here's your chance to do ur thing....lol it won't take much of a push..... ;D
ok my rant is over .....
be well
Keep in mind that the HW98 has the same "power plant" as the HW95/R9. After starting with a .177 barrel on an R9, then a .20 barrel, and then a chopped & choked .22 R1 barrel.......I reverted back to .177 years ago never to look back! For ME the .177 works well for field target matches, squirrel hunting and general plinking past any distance I should be shooting pellets at squirrels.
IMHO.....at R9 power levels the .177 shines!
-
177 all the way!! Awesome rifle!!
Solid, tight, not pellet or hold fussy and ACCURATE!!
Stupid accurate!!
30 yards, 5 shots on a front bag. JSB 7.87.
morning...
thanx for the replys, I was leaning towards the .177 , and i'm glad I asked.... the only problem I have with the 177 is placing them and seating them in the bore is all, but i'm getting better at it the more I shoot.
joe, u list all ur rifles and that they are tuned by ''motorhead'', is this major tune I read about on here or is it just a simple tweaking here and there ?? oh... nice shooting..real nice shooting... that's the kind of groups i'm hoping to get with more time behind the trigger of these AR's. any suggestions of ''tuner's'' here on the east coast ? or where ever ?
that's it, thanx again for the replys and enabling...... ;)
Hey Glenn! I sent mine to Scott, Motörhead here on the GTA, in Cali. He installed a Vortek PG2 full power kit, did a trigger tune and I can't tell you how awesome this rifle is!!! He also did my TX, 97 and 56. Meticulous work, quick turnaround and a great guy to deal with!!
You will love this gun Glenn! I have some 50 yard groups that surprised the heck out of me!! This one was 10 shots with JSB 7.87, her favorite pellet. This group is easily covered by a dime!!. I love this gun bro!!
-
morning....
thanx for the reply and info Joe..
those r the kind of groups I think all of us try for, 10 shots at 50yds, nice, very nice.... you are a true enabler and that's not a bad thing at all... ;D the reason I did ask about where u had I done is, because i'm from Pa. and I was looking for someone here on the east coast, but, no worries, i'll contact him when i'm ready.
i'll be getting the 34 tuned first and when I send it out, it will give me a good excuse to order the 98.... ;)...lol
again thanx for all the replys and info
be well
Anytime Glenn!!
If you'd like, reach out to Scott on pm and ask him how the rifle was stock. He shot it for a while to see what he could improve upon as I sent it to him brand new.
