Title: Crosman 622 Shooting at 622 fps
Post by: egillman on July 17, 2013, 08:47:31 PM
I just received my new F1 chrony and the first gun I tested was my 622 (below) which I recently restored and made a few improvements in the valve.  I was quite impressed when I measured it at right around 620-630 (call it 622) fps!

Thanks.  It actually shoots about 50 fps faster than my Crosman 2250!

Erik, you seem able to put wind in the sails of old Crosmans! ;)What did you fiddle with please? Around 300fps seems more usual for run of the mill 622s.Mr McMurray used to say his intervention turned a toad into a prince!

This 622 is what got me re-interested in airguns.  It had been in my closet for 35 years and I was about to sell it when I discovered that you could buy just about any part needed to restore an old airgun.  I enlarged the port that connects the valve to the barrel, and also filed down the valve stem where it passes in front of the port.  These are basically the same mods that everyone (including me) does to their 2240.  I also put an extra set screw to hold the valve body to the CO2 tube. I was surprised that I was able to get 600 fps while my 2240 only gets about 550 fps.  I think the longer barrel on the 622 gives it the advantage.
