Title: HW97K .177 TH
Post by: WHITEFANG on July 16, 2013, 08:38:52 PM
Broke the thing out.  What a fine gun. Totally different than the TX but for the good. TH stock is not cheep made. Cocking is smooth. Very slight twang. I know it will get worse but no big deal for me to correct.  I have aftermarket piston seals and springs less the guides ready.
Gun is already grouping at 20 yards. I put the new style centerpoint 4-16x40AOIR WITH YOU KNOW me , the RWS 1 piece mount on it.
So far this gun has exceeded my expectations.
Looking even more forward for the HW97 .20 NOW!! Used or not.

You're right when you say it's totally different than the TX. I like shooting both. Both are spot on accurate and a pleasure to shoot. But really hard describe or quantify how it shoots differently. It just does.
If you do pick up a .20, I'll be curious how you like/compare it to your .177.

I was to busy drooling to take pics. Setting in the truck all afternoon was hard on me.lol
I will get some tonight.  The gun does look much better in the hand than in a pic.
You know me got springs and seals already for both 97s.
Well balance gun in The K.
Trust me,  it has happened. Sold 5 to replace 4 and still in the hole.lol 1 more to sell and know more to buy. Just got to feed all the rest. Only good thing out of all of this was plenty of scopes and mounts.

Gone crazy!!!

I never doubted you one bit. Another German workhorse!! I can not believe the way the thing with the TH THAT FOR THE WEIGHT IT IS SO BALANCED. Just I was told. Just got to used to that button on the cocking rod. No big deal and really a good set up so far. THANKS!!!
By the way' the HW is easier to load even in .177 due to the design of the nipple. I did find that the cphp are snug in the breech. I have some light pellets that I will break out  and try tonight plus I have the JSBS Diabolo Exact .177 Cal, 8.4 Grains COMMING. Wally world did stock the cp 7.9 but stopped and only had the heavies. Going by Pass pro later to see what they have. I still have to go thru my stock and see what else I have.
After 100 shots I will go into this thing and do some work to it. Chrony before and after.
The HW 97 green .20 is to have already been worked but I will check it out for my own reasons.

THANKS FOR THE HELP!!

Got all of you!!
Recieved the green HW97K .20 THIS MORNING.
FREAKIN ASSUME LOOKING GUN.
Got it  scoped and fired a few shots.  This gun has had some love put in it.
Pics will come later today on both.
Got concrete coming as we speak so that is going to take some time with just me doing it.
Just 2 yards but still not a one man messed up hand job.
The new green gun is like new on the outside.  Very good find.

Well got took on all. Concrete was great an then the rain.
Flooded the job due to the the slope. What was a creamed broom look aftet hours between rain so now is a rained wash red rock look. Still raining and was not in the pic. Flooded pour.
Got pics of 2 fantastic guns.
Just no target time. Pics are coming. Had no business doing the concrete with the bad hand and by myself.

Green gun is nice@!!!

Sorry about your concrete job.  Hope it turns out useable.  If I was closer, I would have given you a hand.  Not as hard a worker as I once was, but at 71, go a little slower.  Takes more beer to do a job too. ;D  Happy you like your HW97 though.  It is a fine rifle.  Looking forward to the pics.

Well after heavy rains and a flooded project the water has receded and Now I am left with A rain wash drive look.
Here are some of the pictures of the 2 guns.
I have to clean up my project area first thing this morning and then it is play time. Very good choice on the guns. Very pleased for what little I have had time to shoot and figure them out. Loading is much easier so far by the design if the breech nipple. 8)

They both are holer at 20 yards. The green .20 has the trigger worked adj butt pad and a fresh muxxle brake that domeone put some time in making. The cocking latch sre is machined as if it was factory. Even got a polished button on it to release the rod. They extended past the end of the barrel about 4" and the brake is solid down to about 1/2"in front of the barrel. Very lucky to have stumbled on this gun for the money. #9 of 100.

Thanks all

Both of those units are pretty sharp looking FANG.

Your comments on the TH stock on that 97 may have made my mind up for me, I'm thinking that it is now #1 on the 'gotta get me one' list

Whitefang - I've had my HW97KT Blackline for almost 2 months now and I love it.

It shot well right off the bat and seems to like the 13.43gr. JSB's and the 10.5gr. Ultra mag Premiers fairly well, but the JSB Cometa 4.51mm REALLY shine - dropping benched groups at 25 yards down from 1/4" and 3/8" to between .100" and .150".   Try 'em, your rifle might like 'em too.

The standard JSB Exacts in 4.51" did not shoot as well - I/we thought they would.

Love the TH stock. This is not one of those cheap made things. very solid.
I broke the .177 down and installed the JM HORNET spring. Had a hard time getting that thing in. Even put the factory spring and a new guide back in at one attempt. I did rid myself of the twang only to shoot it some and then go back to the drawing board. Thanks to Mark he pointed me in the right direction. That is a healthy spring to say the least. I changed out my spring compressor that I had been using and made another 1 out of 2. Gave me the full length of the gun. With a little magic dust I got the monster in the gun.
No chrony just shooting so far. Very quick shoot cycle. Not bad at all to cock. I do have a slight spring noise but i am sure as the lubes work in it will mellow out. It's not that bad and my be just the way the guns going to sound sprung like it is. Seat of the pants chrony is the smack of the pellet is much more louder. Poor thing is still shooting as it was dead on and still able to bag the gun and shoot it with 1 hand.
Love to put that spring in the green .20 but that thing shoots just too good as it is, but the .177 did as well. Oh well I did order one for it but just put it back up on the shelf.

BOTH GREAT GUNS

Here is the last for today on pics.
1 handed on the bag at .20 yards 10 shots. Again right after the spring and lube. As a fact 5 shots later.  Gun better than the gunner.

Just had 2 blackbirds at the proven 20 yard mark make a bad mistake.
Had the HW80 .20 AND THE GREEN HW97K SETTING SIDE BY SIDE LOADED.
THESE BB lately have gone stupid. Saw them fly in from tree to tree chasing each other. They hit the ground in there what ever. Mr Robin was in the way and they moved out of sight. Here one comes. Smack!!! Bird down!! Lol
Thinking all are gone so I parked the 80. Then out of the blue comes his buddy. Walks by his dead pushed againest the fence DB and stops to look at his bud. Green thing was in my hands and then smack. They are less than a foot apart dead.
Darn!!! :o
Got to love the new gang. Nothing like having a backup!!! LMBO  ;)

Well done, WHITEFANG.  I just got home from a 4-day gopher trip where I used a .17RF, .17CF and my new .177 HW97 Blackline.  It's a terrific shooter with Predator pellets with the best head shot rat at 54yards.  Most of them were 15 to 35yards.  These HW97 really ROCK big time.  I shot the air rifle around the out buildings and corrals for about 80 gophers with the .177 and those Pred pellets.  The Pred's shoot as well as the JSB 4.51mm Cometa pellets - ie: oblong holes for 5 shots at 25 yards.  I was VERY impressed with it's accuracy after about 1,000 pellets, matching my PCP .177.  This HW97 .177 is running stock at 872fps with the 8.44gr. pellets, for 14.25fpe.
I really like the looks of what looks like stainless or nickle plated HW97's like yours.

Glad to see a person enjoy.  Sounds like you had a blast.
The HW97K is a fine made gun. Even my HW97K 20 GREEN HORNET in the FT state is great. Fine power snd dead nut accurate.
