Title: HW30S - Removing Rear Sight, Installing Peep Sight Q's
Post by: Marc on July 03, 2013, 09:24:49 AM
Just installed a peep on my 30S.  I'd like to remove the rear sight to get a clear picture to the front globe.  I took off the rear sight and there is a locating post left sticking up if I remove it.

Then I just removed the spring blade and sight groove unit, and left the block that holds it on - looks better, but the block will not tighten all the way down.

Any recomendations here?

Thanks!

Quick fix is to remove everything. The post will pull out. Or try a shim. Tim Einck makes covers. I have them for my 30,50 and 95. His email is   timein420@hotmail.com

How hard is the pin to pull out?  Vice grips OK?

Never had that problem with my 30........the pin should come out.

You're going to love the peep on the 30s.. I put one on not too long ago.....super easy to shoot accurately.
I have now shot this set up enough to know I won't be putting a scope back on my 30s. Just too easy ,simple and fun to shoot this way.

Happy Shootin To All!

Hey Petey - did you put a cover over where the holes are or just leave it bare?

I have that JM spring kit and other stuff.  I'll need to get in touch some day yet when I decide to tackle it.

Thanks!

No cover....it doesn't bother me .
Go and shoot it the way it is for now......in three or four tins your spring will settle and the power will drop off....change it out then.

Which peep did you get? I like peep sights but was not happy with the William's.

I used the air venturi, its sheet metal and pot metal.  Its range and line up worked great on my HW30s with the stock globe.  That said, the pot metal clamp could not hang on even with the light recoil of the 30.  I used a UTG mount with a shelf and bolted the peep on, not pretty but it doesn't move now.

I'm using a Williams FP-AG....simple straight forward and works great.

Happy to hear that others are also discovering peeps on thier HW30's.
Been using the Williams FP-AG and FP-AG-TK models on mine....
My favorite set up is without the ''TK" (target knobs).

I also use peeps on my FWB124, Walther LGR, Blue Streak, and 1377 pistol.

Marc and Petey, now move up one more notch and get the clear front sight inserts,
like these:  http://www.airarmsspares.com/pellet-sizers-sight-elements-choke-keys/ (http://www.airarmsspares.com/pellet-sizers-sight-elements-choke-keys/)
Just make sure to get a set with the right diameter for the HW front globe,  17.7mm i think.

The clear inserts with chamfered ring adds another level of simplicity and improved sight picture.

I should play around with that this weekend, I have a laser engraver and mini lathe.
