Title: Weihrauch HW80 .20
Post by: WHITEFANG on June 29, 2013, 04:51:28 PM
Received the HW80 yesterday. I gave it a visual from head to toe.  Took the stock of and looked at what I could see.
Not rust seen or mystery oil. Great crown, wood 100%, bluing 100%.
Pellet fit great.  The barrel was nasty as all get out.
Range started a 12 yards. Quickly the gun started grouping and wss put a hole in a hole. Yes some slight light smoke on the first couple of shots. But stopped after that. I parked the gun after 25 shots and chilled. The 21 inch barrel leaves 16 inches hanging out. Looks like a GOOSE GUN.LOL. I did later fire the lathe up and made a shroud for it. Shroud is maybe 3/4 inch longer than the barrel.  The shroud is 1 1/8 od. I made it with a 3 inch chamber for air. I @$%^ it a 12 last night and all you hear is the twang of the spring. That will be addressed after a couple of 100 pellets.
I have been working the new 52 .25 Diana this morning so the HW IS NOW UP ON THE BENCH For ITS TURN. I will chrony it later and post pics of the new GOOSE GUN later.
So the HW is a keeper do far right out of the box.  The gun can only get better esp after a new guide and top hat. The Jm kit will set on the shelve for a while now but I have it.
I may just order a carbine factory barrel for it and not mess with chopping or rebarreling to the LW on this one.

Her is proof that it did happen. 100 shots down the barrel and today is look and see day for the internals and a fresh cleaning and my time.
20 yards shots are nothing to make less than a dime size hole out of 10 shot. I did chrony it and go 10 shot of 807, 16 spread and a 3.87 dev.
VERY HAPPY WITH THE goose gun!

That looks VERY nice. Shroud looks like it would be heavy - how does the shroud attach to the barrel?

Shoud is pvc. Shrould has bushinG out of delrin
Barrel was taped and the bushing super glued to the tape and the shrould. The shroud is solid but can be remove with out harm to the barrel.
There us a 3" x 1" air pocket at the front. The shroud extends maybe 3/4"beyond the face of the barrel.  Has a delrin cap and the air pocket goes back behind the face of the barrel.

The gun looked very good inside. Lube was in front of the piston seal as we all new. There was no cross hatch on the compression chamber. Good thing is there was NO RUST at all inside the gun. As expected it had the steel rear guide that was loose as a goose. (GOOSE GUN) LOL The gun is well made inside. No junk!!!
I got it all ready to go back together with the tophat and rear guide but, I have changed my mind and tonight I am going back together with the gun and the JM full power kit. I wanted to see what it would do with my setup but I am going this route.
The only issue I had was getting the rear plug to break loose. I did need some help on removing it from GETTO MASTER. After removing it I  found that they have used that mystery lock stuff on it.
So thanks GETTO for your help on the complete gun. We are not finished yet!!!

I have pictures of the gun apart that I will post later.
I am back up and able to run the lathe now so the BAM40 L&W.20 project is going to begin after this gun is back togather and working.
THANKS

I love your posts, Fang.  And I trust your opinions more than most becuase you've owned a lot of the budget hammers and I imagine you have high expectations of these HW's for the money, vs. someone who only shoots guns from Germany and Britain.  If it meets your expectations, that goes a long way with guys like me!

I agree and the rifle is something I have wanted for many years now.

I wanted the BEEMAN branded gun before I knew the differences. One day I will have a R1 in 20.

Thanks you very much guys.
One of the best things is there are replacement parts out there for these guns. Springs and spring kits.
A replacement HW80K .20 which is the shorter non GOOSE barrel is $135.00. Not and L&W but a good barrel. L& W BLANK barrel alone is around $120.00 shipped and then I have to machine it to fit. So my point is there are many parts here in the USA for the Weihrauch brand.

So the new HW80 has a steel guide?  I was hoping for a steel spring guide in this model, but I have been reading that the factory guides are plastic these days.  I prefer steel guides.

Yes it had the steel rear 2 peice guide. Good looking but very loose fitting. On top of the spring was what appeared to be a S/S THIN washer.

Well the gun is back on line. To late to really site the thing back in but I did make and effort and good results. The gun cocks like butter. No twang at all. No chrony time but the gun is louder now even with the shroud. Seat of the pants feeling is very good. Very quick sharp shot cycle. Went back with the JM "426" BULLET SEAL. Piston seal fit was not too tight, Steel guide had a good snug fit and the delrin tophat was a good tight fit as well. Only issue on the job was the trigger group. Was very hard to get the pins back in plus there are 2 different length pins in the trigger group. Found that the hard way. 1st attempt went great only to realize the difference and had to remove the pins. For some reason it was hard to get the trigger group lined up correct THAT GO AROUND and the trigger set screw backed out to the point that the trigger had no spring and when in that stag the gun will not hold the trigger lock up which will allow the barrel to release with out notice. Great reason to keep a firm grip on the barrel. Adjusted correct you have no problems. Other than that the rest is very simple. It has given the gun some more punch but only the chrony will tell the truth. YES!!!! ;D

Shot it some the other night and it shot great. Seat of pants and other indications say it is faster and hits harder on impact. Still dead on. TO night I may break it out and chrony it. I have to go back in the gun for the front adj screw TORX. The bedliner pnt and the netting gave the forarm a very good feel  not to mention the looks.

Seat of the pants was correct. Here is a 10 shot group with a compression tube hone, JM 426 BULLET SEAL AND HIS FULL POWER KIT. Pellet is the beeman FTS 11.42 .20 cal.

878.83-
889.94+
884.17*
 11.12◆
   3.60
And this is straight off the bench. Sweet improvement. I take this gun any day! ;D
Accuracy still dead meat on at 20 yards.

Bad thing is I am for real in what I do. Great true unprofessional work. The lathe and tools I have big money in show me no money but show me great returns in performance.  I have nothing but my time to invest.
I make a living off a real job daily. This is my out!! A great mechanical background and machine shop work just show me how I got where I am. A CWI for a large industrail contractor and the safety hat has made me a great living.
Just enjoy what I share is all I ask. I am know better than all of you.

Thanks

FANG
PS:
SPENT MUCH MONEY on low end guns. Invested much to make them shoot. True high end guns yeild money saved and
Money well spent in the long run.
