Title: TX200MK3 Tune Report coming soon
Post by: Booger on June 25, 2013, 08:03:50 PM
I got some good news today. My TX200MK3 .22 will be ready next week, the bad news is I will not be able to pick it up until 7-12-13. My tuner will also lube tune and add a new maccari spring to my RWS-34 .177 while I wait. I will give a full report when the TX200MK3 comes in. I will also be sending off my TX200MK3 .177 to one of our forum members (who is known for the excellent work he does) to be tuned as well. This is all the tuning that I can afford at this time. Hopefully my wife does not read my post, because if she only knew how much money I have in my rifles I would be buying her a complete dining room set.

Bad wife to look over ones shoulder at ANY time  ::)
Both GREAT rifles made even better with some correctly applied tuning & trigger work ;D

Yes it has been a long wait, the longest part is going to be waiting 2 weeks after it is ready. LOL

I enjoy giving reports on good work. I do not know what to expect because she shot very well out of the box, so it will be a surprise for me as well.

Here is part one of my report.

The cocking slot was deburred to help protect piston bearing. A few scratches on the rear bearing were smoothed out. The newest full power Maccari spring was used on the existing rear guide. A new front guide was machined and added (nylon 6/6). The rifle was tested to yeild the smoothest operation with good velocity with nylon spacer and a metal washer in this case. The trigger was lubed and adjusted to 16 oz with no creep.

The most accurate pellet was JSB Exact Jumbo 15.9 grain @ 675 FPS (CPHP @ 725 FPS (which is up 7 FPS)).

The breech seal and o-ring were replaced, the factory piston was slightly modded & fitted for best performance. The piston "boss" was machined for a better 'flat' seal fit.

I will try to shoot this rifle over the week end to give you a full report of how I feel it shoots. So far I am very please with the work done.

I also have two other rifles I need to shoot with a report on one of them as well. Please stay tuned.

That silly grin was on my face before I sent it in. I just wanted it to be the best it could be, and to make sure that PA had fixed it right (which they could have done better). Besides that I have a good extra stock spring.

I was shooting 3 different guns this weekend. So my first report will be on my beloved TX200MK3 .22. She was already accurate and smooth before the tune. She is just as accurate, and even smoother than before. The shot cycle is much better than before, and after break in I know the accuracy will increase (it is already better than I am). As has been stated the TX200 is tuned out of the box, but there are some things that make her better which has happened to a degree. I must say that Mark611 is correct about velocity, there is very little increase. I am very happy with the tune, and I know I will not have any more problems with her. I also have a spare stock spring and seals out of the deal. This means a lot to me because I own two TX200s and if anything happens to them it will be an easy fix. Soon I will be sending out my other TX200 to a board member, but that will have to wait a few weeks because I just got word my mother in law is moving to Texas. While she will not be staying with me (thank God) I have promised some cash to help with the move.

Bottom line is yes it was worth the money, and I would recommend a tune on this rifle. I will also suggest to get the best glass you can afford for this rifle. I have a sidewinder 8-32X56 on my TX200MK3 .177 and will get either the same or a sidewinder 6-24X56 for this rifle. I am a firm Hawke believer until I find something better that I can afford.

My biggest problem with my TX200 is I just got a Benjamin Marauder .25, talk about accurate with a Hawke 2-7X30 scope. I must admit I shot and killed a pigeon at 105 yards (head shot). I was beside myself, and my shooting partner was amazed as well. He said "Dad did you see that shot you just made"? Now that will put a grin on your face, not just the shot but your son being impressed as well.

Lucky if you ask me when I am being completely honest. :) Just 2 flaps of the wings and no more movement.

As noted FPS did not really increase. We had the same results on that part. I really love my German and English rifles. Spring rifles are challenging, but that is what makes them just plain fun. I am glad the fine people here led me in the right direction.
