Had this left over after cutting 2 pistol barrels, and figured I'd try making something I could carry to check different pellets for fit to these guns.
Cut a leade and a crown, and free-styled a shape that is comfy in a pocket, and easy to tell the ends apart. Anytime I'm around pellets I haven't tried yet, I'll push a couple through.
Hoping this saves me cash, and cuts down on the typical "useless" pellet pile.
What do you guys think?

Not a bad idea.

If the Muzzle end of barrels cut ? ... due to choke present in the shorty segment, Nada :P

Aw, shucks! Now you made me blush... ;DIf the Muzzle end of barrels cut ? ... due to choke present in the shorty segment, Nada :P
Good thinking. I'm cutting up marlin PB barrels, and most types will work... but, with a choke, a good tester would have to be sliced out of the pre-choked area. I don't believe it would have to be long, I just made mine square at the leftover length. I did it all free-style, so I still don't know any of the dimensions...and, frankly, Scarlet...

good ideas! ;) :P

Thank you, sir. 8)
This thing does not need to be this big. As long as it is long enough to hold while applying a "sip" vacuum (to check initial seal) it's enough to check fit... assuming it's a decent barrel (consistent bore) to begin with.
From now on, I'll be making them to fit on a key ring.

Good idea. I am going to use the 7" 2240 barrel I just replace and do the same. I might also make a mouthpiece for it and it can double as a peashooter.

I think if you wanted to take full advantage of the accuracy as a pea shooter, you'd have to scope it. ;)
The variations in production barrels would probably make a tester from one a poor predictor of the fit in another. In fact, a very poorly made barrel may have too much variance from one end to the other for a random segment to indicate well.
I'm using very consistent and seasoned barrels, the tester slugs out identically to the pistols. It will only be useful for them.

I like it!! Too many groups ruined by variations in head sizing from the same tin of pellets.

Although you couldn't check each pellet without scribing the rifling in, a random check of a small number from each tin might quickly point out which tins (mixed production lots) should be put in the "plinker only" pile.
I started a tin just for saving the slugs for that pile. They still shoot fine, and may show no effect from slugging (Micro Grooves do not tear things up much). Here's another... a better size.
