Title: No chrono exploration (part 2)

Another way to look at shot strings/shot graphs (without a chronograph).

A poster (jessered) gave me the idea for dots on a line. This is even simpler than the first post (and is “elegant” as you don’t even need printed targets or to cut out target centers).

1. Draw a line, put a dots on the line about every ˝”.
2. Fill gun a bit past the normal sweet spot.
3. Shoot the dots.  In this case, shot twice at each dot.  Can shoot 1X, 3X, or 5X, depending on what kind of shot count you expect.

So, there would have been about 34-36 shots that stayed on a dime…and about 18 shots that would have hit an aspirin each time (at 20 yards).

Had done something similar early in my fooling with PCPs also.
Set us a 4 foot tall section of cardboard at @ 40 yards with some targets up on the upper level.
Started shooting 10 ( Clip full ) at each target noting POI relative to POA
* Shot stings would rise and fall before and after sweet spot which helped to find at least were maximum velocity was and at what point in fill it happened.

Like your horizontal stringing idea much better tho   ;D

I've done it a few times now. Using 3 or 4 lines and assigning a different pellet to each line seems to really highlight which one your air gun likes better and faster (at least for me).

But I take no credit, it was your brilliant idea first and I think everyone would have made the next logical leap soon enough.

Excitedly waiting for Monday. Have 3 different springs coming from McMaster-Carr. Have .042, .045 and .047 coming. Even with a Disco spring I am plateauing around 2650 on my P-Rod. Really showed up using your trick. I would like to have the sweet spot start at around 3K. Guess I will be putting more lines on cardboard then.
