Title: 9 Pointer with a surprise
Post by: JimH on November 23, 2010, 07:00:11 PM
I found this story (http://blog.syracuse.com/outdoors/2010/11/baldwinsville_man_shoots_9-poi.html) interesting especially seeing the guy lives in my town.

That kind of thing happens occasionally.
It's nice to know that he took this big fellow before the arrow had a chance to fester and make him suffer and spoil the meat.

I've found flies from other fishermen in a trout's mouth. Does that count? :)

I shot a button buck at very close range (legally on a doe permit) through the heart once with a .357, and it died within 50 feet. I used to keep the Ruger GP100 near my right hand when swamp ambushing, for those sneaky buggers that come up in your blind spot. This was one of them.

Upon recovery I found a camo arrow in the front right shoulder, and believe me, it HAD festered. The broadhead was caught in the sinews and it had been flopping there for some time. Poor thing was probably in too much pain to pay attention to his surroundings. We did not eat that deer, as the whole shoulder area was deeply infected, really a disgusting mess.

It made me a more cautious stick hunter, that's for sure.
