Looking into an air tube extension and shroud extension for my .25 cal MROD.
Has anyone modded their MROD with either of these? If so any info would be greatly appreciated. Notice that Marmot & Talon both carry the parts. Marmot is less expensive which kind of scares me. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
M

For the shroud extension, consider a length of Delrin( black of course ) to allow the OE shroud to be slid forward to house the additional baffles. I prefer the one-piece shroud, and to avoid a threaded joint inthe flight path. It would be turned to match the diameter of the stock shroud, and is very unobtrusive. See our own Bluesdaddy( you'll find scads of his posts in Bruce's 30 cal, B50 build thread in the big bore gate ).
cheers,
Douglas

I don't have the air tube but I do have the Marmot shroud and It does the job for what It needs to do and quiets it down very much. I do not like the threaded part of it at all though, it fits snug onto the barrel but the end thread isn't all the way on because It ran out of thread and that really annoys me. For the price and bench shooting or plinking on a table It works great but taking back to the woods with brush is a different story It feels as if it could just snap off with a good blow because of the plastic material.

The items that Marmot (Jim Gaska) makes are good quality. The air tube extension will add about 70 ccs, which will be very nice, but will also add over a half pound to an already heavy gun. Fine for the bench.

I have Jim's screw on shroud extension and it is quite nice. Fit and finish is excellent and you have to actually look to notice it. Holds two extra baffles.

I second this!

+1 for JG shroud ext. Mine fits tight to the barrel shroud. Same for the two I have for the Prods. ES, if you didn't, try removing the o-ring.
I've looked at the air tube ext, but the length/weight is a concern to me. Now, put that on a bull pup, and might make a very manageable length again. :)

Thanks for the posts.
Does any make a one piece extended shroud for the MROD?
Not so much worried about a little more weight with the "tube" extension. The MROD is already a heavy beast. Any REAL data on how many more shots you get with the extension? If 70 cc is its volume then it is ~ 25% more. So if I am getting 3 mags at my present tune does that mean I will get 4 mags?

Jim makes a one piece shroud to your specified length. He made one for one of my Prods. Believe it is $55 shipped.

I have the shroud extension from Jim, The color is not a great match to the stock shroud but it works well.

Xeasternskies: You mentioned "plastic material" but I think my extension is all anodized aluminum except the baffles. Maybe you have the 1 piece shroud he offers? Got any pics of the plastic parts as I was going to be ordering one soon?

I believe the stock M-rod holds about 210 ccs, so the 70 extra gives about 1/3 more air. I think one extra clip is a safe bet.

P.S. I have a Gaska one piece extra long shroud on a P-rod and it is very nice.

Don't confuse the shroud extension with the air extension two different animals. the shroud extension only used for shroud and 2 more baggles. Completely seperate from the air extension. No more air or shots from the shroud extexsion. Jim Gaska make them both. and they are nice.

Not confused Bob. Shroud and tube extensions.

I bought the shroud extension from Jim. He responded to my email promptly and is great to deal with. The difference is noticeable and there was no change in point of impact. If I had known about it at the time I would have seriously considered a longer one piece, but the one I got is easy to pop on and off to compare.

I bought MM shroud extension for my MRod .25. It quiets it down some but, as I understand, not all the way down to a .22. I do not yet own one of these so I can't really compare.
Manufacturing is very well done in AL6061. It makes the barrel a little long for dense underwoods but fine for "work" in open areas.
Hope that helps.

Hey Joel there is a thread about someone who polished their MROD shroud and it match the extension considerably better. I will still look but I think he said he used 1000 wet-dry sandpaper.

PS - thanks for the photo !!

I have the Talon Tunes shroud extension and you can't tell them apart from the stock shroud.
It's 6" long and has 2, possible 3 baffles. It's been a while.. but the Mrod .25 is much more backyard friendly with it. Fitment is also perfect. No complaints here.
