Title: Disco Mod's - how hard are these two?
Post by: Marc on June 03, 2013, 10:00:38 AM
OK - may still consider a Disco, depending on how hard these two mod's are:

1.  Reduce power/velocity to quiet gun down (600 to 700 fps), and still hunt.

2.  Add extra barrel band - it just looks like a lot of barrel without support - or am I wrong on this one?

Thanks!

Mark,

If you lighten the hammer and use a reduced hammer spring you should get a nice 12 FTLB rifle with about 30 shots..

As to the barrel band, there are three things you should do with disco to prevent barrel movement and get a consistent Point of impact over time-

1) Clamp down an properly tighten the breech screw. You may have to hand fit the transfer port to get the breech to seat solidly over the air tube.

2) Inlet the first barrel band in the stock about 1" ahead of the Breech. Use a long set screw at the bottom and bed it in with epoxy so it aligns everything well.

3) Put the second band up front right behind the fill port. One of the Challenger PCP barrel bands might work the best since they allow the barrel to free float.

Detuning a Disco that far with just hammer strike will reduce the fill pressure you can use well below 2000 psi.... Restricting the available pressure range will cost you shots compared with what you can achieve by strangling up the transfer port.... There are smaller ones available, and by selecting the one appropriate to the power level you want, you can reduce the power (and noise) and yet still be able to fill to 2000 psi, achieving a greater number of shots....

Replacing the transfer port is easy, finding the right one, not so much....
