Title: A few questions about the x25s and the x12 vs x16
Post by: tehsquirrel on June 02, 2013, 11:31:43 PM
Hello!  I hate to keep bothering you but it seems like maybe your email or website is flooded but I ordered a fully tuned x25s a week or so ago and have sent you a few emails, filled out the contact form on your site, and tried calling a couple of times.  I know you are playing catch up from taking a week off so I don't want to come across as being rude, but I did have just a few questions before my rifle arrives hopefully tomorrow...

I asked about pellets (which to use) and did some research and some folks on here said the H&N FTTs 5.53, and I wondered if the larger size could damage the barrel at all and if it would be better to start with smaller ones or maybe you are more familiar and could suggest one.

The other question I had was about the x12 vs x16 for my daughter...  I was interested in which would be easier to cock because that seems to be the most difficult part.  I ended up getting her a gamo little cat and she can cock it (with difficulty) but the gun isn't powerful enough to flip the resetting targets (airgun ones...) consistently.  I had considered maybe an x12 or x16 at some point once I get some more funds built up.  Getting it in pink or purple would make me a hero.

Thanks again and I hope I'm not bothering you, and I am super excited to try out the X25S once it arrives!  I've been getting an area all setup to explore it.

I don't think an over size pellet will hurt a barrel, lead is way softer than steel, won't shoot good so you won't be shooting lots of them anyway. Each air rifle will shoot one or two pellets best, every one is different so all you can do is look at what has worked for others and start there. the 12 and 16 are the same action however the 16 has a plastic breech block and is known to pop the latch up detent ball...I can paint it up if needed...Mike

Thanks for getting back to me.  I tried some gamo hunter pellets and they were pretty awful, about 1/4 miss-shapen...  Then I tried the 5.53 H&K FTTs and I got a few really tight groups at 15 yards with the regular sights.  By the way the manual for the X25 I think has the windage adjustment backwards, I had wondered why it was different from the other rifles and then noticed it went the wrong way!  The trigger is very smooth it surprised me at first.  The gun feels quite solid and it moves the large pellets with quite a bit of force, I'm glad I didn't get the x28.  I can tell a huge difference from the crossman fury which had a big kind of twang to it where my x25 is all pellet moving noise like a nail gun.  The picture from the Rex scope is gorgeous they are such a great value.  I got the wrong scope mounts at first (weaver instead of dovetail), nobody has the dovetail in stock around here even wally world is out.  Thank you so much for the time you put into it, and I'm sorry if I've flooded you :)  I plan on doing up a full review with pictures once I've sighted in the scope and found the right pellets.

Is there an advantage or disadvantage to taller scope mounts, and is it worth it to preserve the iron sights with the see through ones?

I will start saving up for the x12 I think my old lady would enjoy it in pink!  I don't think it's worth getting until I have enough for the gun + full tune + rex 4x :)

I wouldn't get them any higher than needed to clear the bell of the scope....to high can make for alot of fun sighting in...

The x25 is very accurate and I took a line on the numbers posted on the box and tried some RWS hobby pellets which seemed to work well.

I've never had such an easy time sighting in a scope the rex scope is really easy especially with the accuracy of the x25, although I am considering a shim because I had to raise it about 20 clicks, it holds perfectly though.

The screw to take the rear sight off was quite soft and I had to drill the head off to get the sight off, but regardless it doesn't matter because the rex scope is killer.  The trigger still surprises me, it is so smooth.  The energy feels a little low but I think finding the right balance of pellet is going to help some.  The Hobby pellets move faster but I don't think they have the force of the bigger pellets.  I'm going to try some 14.2 crossman boxed premiers and some exact domes to see if it helps.

Setting up the gamo little cat has been a bit more challenging but we love the fact that my daughter can cock it all by herself, but the power of that one is very disappointing.
