ok guys i,v been looking at air guns at walmarts for a long time and i need to know whats the best one for the money .
-
Best i can tell, that leaves you with the choice of $159.00 titan, $109.00 firestorm?, $80.00 phantom or a daisy. Anyone see anything else on the shelves lately? I think the phantom is the best gun for the money.. J

Is it good anuff for small game at 50 yds

This here is for selling/trading/buying. While I'm here, check out Airguns of Arizona. If you add about $100 to it, you can get something a lot nicer, especially in the Diana line.
-
Ditto to that. Better off getting a Diana 34 than any of the big box turds. The 34's show up in the classifieds gate once in a while but get bought pretty fast so you'd better be on the ball when they are offered for sale.

I'd argue against the idea that you have to buy a diana or spend the extra money to get something nicer rather than just spending $100.00 at walmart for a good hunting gun. My Dianas are nice for sure but they are also heavy and long(cept the side cockers). My Diana 54 also had a spring die in it after just a few thousand shots, while my $100.00 G-1 had easily as many through it and is still going fine. The crosmans are fairly well finished and shoot accurate. They are lighter, cheaper, more upgradable and both of my 80.00-100.00 guns shot 7.9gr. pellets in the 950fps range, netting 15+lbs of energy. I'd spend the extra money on a good scope and mount. The centerpoint 4x16x40 sold at walmart is a fine scope for about $70.00. An $80.00 phantom and the $70.00 scope would be an accurate(with the right pellet) hard hitting combination that should last for years and serve its purpose well. Or for the same $150.00 you could go with the .22 cal titan. The 4x scope is an inexpensive model but it seems to be holding up ok so far. The power isn't as advertised though, most seem to throw 14.3gr. at about 700-750fps, mine will only do 690 or so. Once again, about 15ft lbs. Either gun or caliber would be useful for the range you could shoot it accurately. With lots of practice, a 50yard shot on game would be possible.
If you upgraded one day you would probably look to the Beeman or RWS line as they are finer made pieces for sure. J

If you're willing and able to tune it and change the awful trigger, the Crosman Phantom can be made into a shooter. But it still wont be as good as a 34 Panther is right out of the box. The difference in price between a tuned Phantom and a stock Panther is not much. You can also get the Panther in .22 caliber, making it more suitable for hunting. You're not going to find a quality air rifle at Walmart. At least not one that doesn't need a lot of work. Now if you were to tune that Panther, you would REALLY have something special. Believe me I know. Some of you may have seen me write about my Panther on other posts. I can't imagine anything better for under $200. Use the 10% off coupon code at Pyramyd Air and get it for $195. You'll pay about $12 for shipping, but no tax.
"Is it good anuff for small game at 50 yds?"
The question is, are you good enough for small game at 50 yards. Most people are not, including yours truly. If you are, Airguns of Arizona has the RWS 350 Feuercraft for $269.

I've been surprised to find, after years of only having a few RWS guns, that i prefer to pick up one of my crosmans from walmart EVERYTIME. The only time i shoot the german guns anymore is when i want to hit targets past 50 yards. Or if i want to look at nice wood. For general daily carry on my walks, its a wally world crosman. :)

I've got a Wallyworld G1-Extreme and a Storm XT and I have to say both of them were nice shooters right from the box. The G1 got a GRT trigger installed and the Storm XT I just left alone as the trigger was very nice.

Compasseco has the TF 89s for cheap this weekend! It may be the best hunting air gun I own. Accurate, powerful, and lighter than some of the others. Also you get to deal with really nice folks and that is a pleasure :)
-
Well i,ll go to walmarts and pick out something and get back to you guys.
-
I look forward to hearing about what you picked out and what you think of it..J

I'd agree with Atchman2, the TF89 for $119 is a really nice deal. But I've gotten a few deals over the years. If you can find a refurb Walther Force 1000, it is about the same gun -- and I got one for $64. I've gotten used guns for great prices (Cometa Fenix 400, unshot, $130; Walther Falcon Hunter, $80; Mendoza 2800, $50; Hatsan Mod 100, $98). But I think my best buy was a used/tuned Cometa Fusion Star I got from Gene for $270. Beats everything else I have in class quality and accuracy. However, I don't know that you can generally get them for less than $350 new.
