Title: Hatsan 135 w/Peep Sight?
Post by: KRJoye on April 29, 2013, 09:20:59 AM
Got my Hatsan 135 last weekend and ran 150 rounds through it man my shoulder was sore the next day (LOL) most fun i have had with a spring gun ever! Very impressive rifle, well built looks like a bargain for $219 @ AGW. Looking forward to playing with the trigger adjustment.

Really like the rifle, however not to impressed with the standard fiber optic sights and for me scopes for 10 yard plinking doesn't make much sense.

Anyone mount a peep sight on a 125/135 yet?  After a lot of searching i ordered one of Archers Industry Brand version $39.95. This is the same one that comes standard on their competition rifles.  I'm hoping it works out with the front fiber optic. I also have a Williams peep to try if the Industry Brand doesn't want to stay tight. I'll post some pics with results once i get it setup up.

I bought a 125 in January with the same thought in mind.  I mounted a Gamo rear peep sight from an old MC Super, much like the Gamo and Air Venturi peep sights currently available.  Unfortunately, the rear peep and front sight were not compatible.  The rear sight could not be lowered anywhere near enough to align with the front.  I did not try anything to replace or modify the front sight.  I eventually ditched the peep sight idea and went with a center point scope.  A scoped rifle wasn't my original intention, but I'm really happy with it now.

Yes i was afraid of that, a-r-c-h-e-r also sells a hooded front sight to work with the rear peep. It fits 15mm barrels not sure what the 135 barrel dia is.

A-rcher Airuns..Scopes and Sights..Iron sights  (won't let me put the link in)

Got the AAR peep sight yesturday along with a canister of .25 Chinese domed pellets to try.

For $40 you can beat it! All metal screw in diaopter iris piece & knobs, nice audible click adjustment up/down & side to side. Fits on the dovetail super tight, the rail tightening thumb wheel has allen wrench feature so you can really sinch it up good. You will need to remove the rear iron sight.

The view is 100 percent better than the stock iron sights.

Test fired a few rounds, just like we were afraid of, at its lowest adjustment its about an 1/8" to high to work with the stock 135 front fiber optic sight. Im going to disassemble the peep sight this weekend and carefully shave some mat'l off the bottom of the metal block the iris mounts in. That should do the trick. Stay tuned...

I want to hear how it turns out.  I briefly took the scope off my 125 the other day to change mounts, and was really surprised at how much lighter and well balanced the rifle was without the scope.  I think having a peep sight near the eye is far better than a rear sight at midpoint of the rifle.  My peep sight is on a Gamo Whisper now, so at least it gets use on a different rifle.

Something you may have already considered is the need for a scope stop on the peep sight.  The sight you ordered looks very similar in design to the one i have.  The stop plate on the top of my 125 required the sight to be positioned too far forward, and the same went for a large stop screw on the top of my Whisper.  At first, I installed the sight without the stop, and it seemed to hold tightly.  It only took about 20 rounds before the sight fell off the back of the rifle.  I drilled a small hole in the center of the base of the sight and pressed in a roll pin (5 mm in length maybe, purchased at Ace Hardware for a few cents), which fit into the scope stop hole.  After 500+ rounds, the sight hasn't budged.

At first I was not impressed with the sights on my Hatsan 135 but after shooting a lot of rats and targets I have grown to really like them. Most of the rats I have been shooting are inside 10 yards and I've found that I can easily pull off a head shot. You may want to shoot it some more and give the sights a chance before you switch top a peep.

UPDATE after looking at the peep site block where the iris mounts there was no way to modify it to drop it lower. Instead i made an offset or off center the iris piece out of a small brass pipe fitting. It lowered the sight line about an 1/8". Tested it out in it was plenty enough to work with the front sight now.

Getting quarter size groups at 10 yards with the peep site (still getting used to the rifle) with the A-rcher `Peak' .25 pointed pellets. They seem to be just the right size/weight for my 135. Other pellets have fit really tight.
